Am I doing it right?

Hello. I am new at FG. Every time I try to join a game, things will load, a few chars will be at the top, I can make a char, but nothing ever happens. It looks the game is ready to launch, but nothing ever happens. I have done this with a few games, and I have never been able to actually play one. Am I doing something wrong? Thank in advance!

Are you invited to the game? You should not be joining random games that are listed as available. FG is not an MMO.

If you are invited to the game, then you should probably also have the voice channel info and the GM can walk you through how they want you to start. Usually by loading the appropriate books and creating your character.

Please don't. Just because someone did not put a password on their game does not mean that they want people they do not know to join. They won't have a character for you, they are most likely in the middle of a campaign or even the middle of a battle. It would be like (roughly) walking into a gaming store and sitting down at a table that's in the middle of play and not asking or saying anything to the people around the table.

There are several discord servers you can check in on too. The official FG one, the FG Academy one, and the FG Gaming League one too.

Not everybody locks their doors. Doesn't mean they are at fault if you trespass. You only need to lock your door if you don't trust your neighbors to respect your things. Around here people expect everyone to respect each other.

Because they don't want to make their players remember a password. Things are generally pretty civil.

I don't have a password for my GURPS game.

You can take that attitude, but I don't think you are going to find people very welcoming if you do.

In your original thread we already gave you advice on how to find a game, and this was not the way. You also already posted in the LFG so that's good. I know its hard to find a game to play in. The general consensus is that there are 20 players for every GM. Since you said you are a GM, you might have much better luck taking a FG Academy class to learn the basics and the running your own game. For D&D games, you will not have any trouble finding players if you reach out just a little.

I'll take your word for it and not try to join their games. It is seriously hard to find a game to play just to learn, and play as a player before I make a campaign. I have entire worlds that need to be deployed. I cant' do that on FG if I have not even played as a player.

Have you signed up for a free class at FG Academy? How about the FGGL Discord server and one of their pickup games?

We all know its hard to find a game as a player. That's why so many folks put a lot of effort into trying to help others. Hence the resources we've pointed out. There are also pay ways to learn, StartPlaying is a website you can get into games for (I think there are others), but most/all the GMs there charge. But I think they mostly take new players and are will to help folks learn.

Superior event management for gamers | Warhorn (https://warhorn.net/) also hosts events, many of them are online cons and organized play that use FG. I haven't used it this way, but I suspect you can search it to find a game too.

I saw you log out of my game last night. We didn't even see that anyone had joined as the notification got lost in all of the rolls that were being for made for a Traveller game. Sorry, I deleted your character after we saw that you logged out.

I could have sworn I put a password on it, although a 5 year old could probably could have figured it out rather quickly, lol.

It does not matter why - you are not invited so you don't crash the party. Simple.

I usually don't mind such things. Although, I would advise sending a message through chat and introducing yourself. We probably would have seen the message and responded. We were just making characters and trying to learn Traveller. Only one of us had ever played before and he doesn't run games. So, instead of me being the DM again, lol, I decided to see if ChatGPT can handle the job.
