Table Tools Desktop

Table Tools Desktop adds a dock for minimized Fantasy Grounds windows, giving your desktop a cleaner place to store the windows you want to come back to.

Instead of minimized window bubbles being scattered across the tabletop, supported windows can be docked into a visible desktop bar. Clicking a docked icon restores the window and removes it from the dock. An example here, I have set the dock the size I desired and begun to fill it with my planned windows, with the Title setting turned on rather than off or hover, so I can see what the names of the objects are.

A parcel, encounter, map, quest, story page, item, feat, table, spell, location and player notes. Each have options based on what it is, or what it's for; If I wish to award the party the parcel for their quest, I can right-click it and Add to the Party-Sheet, or right-click the encounter and add it to the Combat Tracker.

Adjust the slots to your desired fit, if you're looking to store a few items to span a whole second monitor you can select between 5 and 30 slots of minimized windows.

This is intended for GMs and players who regularly keep maps, NPCs, encounters, parcels, character sheets, reference windows, and other records open during play.

Notes

Some Fantasy Grounds right-click menu entries are inserted by the ruleset or engine (Window).
Available dock actions depend on the type of record being docked.
The dock is designed to feel like part of the normal Fantasy Grounds desktop rather than a separate control panel.

Changelog
[I]19/6/2026 Fixed a text scaling/UI issue between themes. Added custom themes; Core Gold, Gothic, Frost, Futuristic, Parchment, Simplistic, White Nobility. Additionally four added themes designed to match popular FGU Themes: Western, Industrial, Winter and New Gothic.
19/6/2026 Made some slight changes to its starting point to not overlap the dice tower if that's where people keep it, thought I'd get ahead of any suggestions if that became one.
19/6/2026 Fixed off-state visibility, prevented accidental dock closing, cleaned up duplicate dock windows (a bug I made trying to fix a bug), improved icon display in masked rulesets/themes, changed the default frame to Core Gold, and added two extra themes; Mel's Gold/Silver core.
19/6/2026 Added a Dock Closed Windows option for that one player we know who "Accidentally" closes everything, allowing closed windows to be sent to the dock instead of being lost when accidentally closed.
19/6/2026 Added multiple dock row options, ranging from 1x5 to 1x30, and 2x5 to 2x30 slots for saved windows.
19/6/2026 Added drag-and-drop docking for record shortcuts, allowing NPCs, images, parcels, encounters, notes, items, stories, and similar records to be dropped directly onto the dock. Added dock rearranging by dragging docked icons into a new order, or what isn't docked into a specific location for your OCD.
20/6/2026 Added CallOfCthulhu7E, and fixed a dock-entry restore bug on restart.
20/6/2026 Changed the Table Tools Desktop extension to support a vertical dock orientation option, and fixed a bug that effected vertical rows.
26/6/2026 Added Send to Dock for smart dock entries, allowing the GM to send docked records directly to a player’s dock or all player docks without opening the record on their screen. Added a new Smart Dock: Player-to-Player Send option so groups can allow players to send accessible dock entries to each other. And a sorting function to sort your dock by different record types.
28/6/2026 Fixed docked Images and other record indexes reopening as blank records, and added compatibility entries for Shadow of the Demon Lord and World of Darkness rulesets.
5/7/2026 Added a new Icon, Thank you Aemila!
7/7/2026 Added two right click options, one to rename your docked windows and another to lock it in place so it is not removed when clicked on or closed out of.

Mate, it's fantastic!
Just some minor notes which hopefully are an easy fix:
- in your pictures, it looks like there's a frame around the dock, but in my test it doesn't show. It's not just a stylistic thing, it makes it a bit harder to right click to unlock and drag to reposition
- The titles don't show as neatly as in your screenshot, they're cut in half (see picture)

I don't know if these issues are theme-specific, I used the default theme for D&D 5e

Glad to hear it. I’m actually pretty happy with how this one turned out, and I think it’ll be very popular at my game tonight.

The frame is from the theme I was using, so it’s probably not universal. That was an oversight on my part, so I’ll need to pull out the trusty MS Paint and make my own. I also made the dock scale with the UI setting, and I think the title issue is a funky combination of that scaling plus the space I gave the text and.. reduced size for the second line.

I think I have a solution, though. I’ll push it out today!

To be clear, it's already a BIG step up in usability from the bubbles, for me!

I haven't looked into how themes work in FGU, but wouldn't it be wiser to, instead of creating your own graphics, reuse something like the frames and backgrounds of the windows? That way they should already adapt to different themes (assuming you have a way to reference them without pointing to the specific assets of a theme but by name/tag/type/style selector or something along those lines)

This looks great!

A couple of things when initially using this:

1) There's a right-click close option. If I select that, the whole window closes (expected), but how do I get it back?
2) I don't see any icons for the minimized entries when using with the PFRPG2 (Pathfinder 2e) ruleset - just big black circles. No other extensions loaded. This is even for generic windows (images, etc.).

Try a few themes and let me know.

The titles now are perfect, I can read the text fully or almost fully (when the title is too long - but there's enough text visible to understand what each icon is, just like on an OS toolbar/dockbar).

The frame though... Still not appearing  I don't have any other extension loaded, only Table Tools Desktop.
Here's the themes I've tried:

Core:

Hmm. I see. And a console errors if you try changing its visibility/options while closed. I've added a simple recovery command, and a failsafe to reopen it if it's accidentally closed. The icons there are being masked by Fantasy Grounds, I think I can work around this. Thanks for your report, I think I have a quick solution and should be able to push an update shortly.

Updating now!

The dock has learned some manners.

Fixed/Adjusted

Turning Smart Dock off now actually hides the dock.
The dock can no longer be accidentally closed from the window menu.
Added cleanup for a short-lived build where the dock could clone itself like it had learned mitosis.
Adjusted icon handling for rulesets such as PFRPG2 where some dock icons could appear as black circles... and this should fix other rulesets too.
Changed the default dock frame to Core Gold so first load is easier to see.
And I added some more dock frame options.

Glad you're enjoying it, and thank you! I'm glad it'll be of great use.

I've added a few extra details; allowing two rows to be created and created a new option for that one player we all have who "accidentally" closes stuff; the table tools desktop here will catch windows you close and not just minimize. You can update now to play around with it. I'm looking at dragging and dropping windows into it as well, and allowing you to reposition where they are via drag and drop methods.

Yep, working on it already 😅

I have a suggestion for an improvement, but I don't know how easy or hard it is to do, and it's not a "must have": more meaningful icons based on the window.
E.g.: if it's the window of a character, the icon could be the same picture used as Token of the character, that way even if the titles on the toolbar appear only on hover it's immediately obvious, with a glance, what the window is. If it's a book, use the same miniature used for that book in the Modules window. Etc.

Looks perfect!

I was actually in the middle of adding and testing right-click options to change icons. As well I've pushed an update to allow you to drag and drop things down into the bar, move things around, etc. Oh and a new setting for that one player we all know that "accidentally" closes everything.

I snagged this addon and it is fantastic, and in my opinion it is a must have for certain players that are not the most technically inclined :D

Is there a possibility of having an option for the bar to be displayed vertically?

The smart dock can now send records directly to another player’s dock. If you have an image, handout, parcel, note, or other docked record you want someone to have handy, right-click it on the record and use Send to Dock. As the GM, you can send it to a specific player or to all connected players without popping the window open on their screen.

There is also a new option for Player-to-Player Send. When enabled, players can send docked entries to each other, while the host still validates the request so private GM-only material does not get exposed by accident.

This has already been useful in testing for quietly handing someone a map, reference, note, or recurring window without interrupting the table.

Edit: And a sorting function.

Another great idea.

Using this in Savage Worlds - just testing. Closing a window (or minimizing it) makes a short cut in the dock, If you open the Images window an close or minimise that, it creates a blank <<new image>>

Don't know if its an extension but pretty much every time a window is close it creates an entry in the dock. Closing combat tracker, Modules, Books, etc.

Hi,

just purchased this extension and whilst I love the idea and think it could become really useful there are a couple of things that stop it from being so for me at this time.

Firstly it is adding any window i close to the dock rather than windows I minimise, which means i spend all my time removing closed windows from the bar that I don't want there. Is it possible to stop adding windows closed with the 'x' button?

Secondly I'd love that once a window is docked in the bar, that even when i opened it it remained as an icon on the bar until i right click - remove it, so that i'm not searching for where a minimised window is amongst the icons (having titles always on is not really my favourite option as many titles are far too long to be easily legible at a glance... maybe an option to rename the icons on the bar, seperate to the window's actual name could help here?)

Thanks for all your work, it's appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon

There's a setting you've enabled, that is disabled by default, that allows you to catch closed windows as well as minimized. Please check your Table Tools Desktop options.

Adding a renaming function isn't a bad idea, I can happily look into that for a future build sometime.

I think my players have encountered a bug, it seems to happen only to PLAYERS, not to the DM though:

when rejoining a game, if a player had some windows docked in the dock at the moment of closing the previous session of the game, they do not appear there anymore when rejoining.
It happens to all my players, every time they rejoin one of my games their docks are empty, but if they had one or two windows "open" instead of docked those are restored correctly; but it doesn't happen to me (the DM), when I start one of my campaigns the icons in the dock are always all there

I think I found what is happening here.

Fantasy Grounds has a local per-user option called Desktop: Restore windows on start. I tied the dock restore behavior to that setting so the dock follows the same preference as normal FGU window restore.

Since that option can be different for each player, it explains why it may work for you as the GM but not for players reconnecting to the same campaign.

https://i.postimg.cc/TYh7TT0k/image.png

The screenshot above is from a player view in the Per-User Settings section. If a player wants their docked windows to come back after reconnecting, they should make sure Desktop: Restore windows on start is turned on.

I could force the dock to restore regardless of that setting, but since this is intentionally a per-user Fantasy Grounds preference, I do not want to override how someone chooses to manage their desktop.

I should have added, they DO have that option set, it's the first thing we checked: as I said, if they have some windows open and some docked, the windows that are open are restored correctly, the ones that are docked are not restored.

Holy moly, this is incredible! I have been begging for something like this to come along for YEARS. You might have made THE extension for FGU. This should come packaged with it!

I play a lot of Cyberpunk Red, a system which can get kind of crunchy and messy, so I thought "Yeah, this seems perfect" when forge suggested it to me,
but then I bought it and realised it wasn't compatible with the system. Oops...
Why would Forge have it appear in the list of extensions for the ruleset, then? Ah well...

Having this be natively compatible for CP:R would be amazing, so I hope to see it someday! Thank you for making this. (❁´◡`❁)
