Setting grid invisible

Is there a way to set the grid, but then turn it off so it's not visible? I want to use the distances for player movement but don't want a grid over the whole image.

I don't think you can do anything with the grid though that is a good idea to turn the grid transparent. You might want to add that to the wish list started by Ged in on the House of Healing board.

The grid is made of thin black lines, though. On a dark background they become almost impossible to see which would be about the same effect you are looking for.
