XML variables?

Is there a way to use variables in the XML files?

I have a windowclass and rather then specifying hard-coded positions/offsets it'd be great to set a variable. I know this isn't possible directly, but perhaps through setting of a global variable in a script?

I want to reduce the amount of repeated hard-coded numbers, but also in a concise shorthand way.

Ah-ha, I got the desired functionality using templates. That makes things so much cleaner.
