View Full Version : bug with die rolling in the dice tower

I noticed this bug last night while gaming and then tested it again after today's update.

When a player grabs some dice from the desktop and drops them into the dice tower, the GM chat box shows those die rolls at GM. When a player clicks on an ability or something from the character sheet and rolls some dice, it works fine (shows the DM who rolled the dice). I just tested it and the latest patch didn't fix it. Two weeks ago when I ran the game in my campaign, this bug didn't exist, so it was just introduced recently.

I'm running the following extensions (in case it's related to one of them):

Advanced Effects
Aura Effects
Better Combat Effects
Better Combat Effects Gold
Dropped Order
Equipped Effects
Height
Inventory Identified
Player Agency
5E - Automatic Death Resistance
5E - Automatic Save Advantage
5E - Automatic Shield Master
5E - Turn Based Effects
5E - Add-on - Chat Effects

We have not made any pushes to the CoreRPG and base rulesets for several weeks; as they are currently locked to the Test channel for the big changes coming.

Therefore, if you are running in Live and something changed in the last couple weeks, then it is one of the extensions. You'd have to figure out which one, and notify the extension developer.

Just a note: You should not need any height extension anymore since height is already implemented in FG natively :) (except maybe the extension of yours does more than what FG provides?) The height extensions I know already got deprecated, so that it may cause issues if you are still using them :)

ok - I can't speak to your response, but I know it was working recently.

However, I unloaded all of the extensions and it's still broken for me.

Can you give me an example of a specific roll that’s not working when dropped in the dice tower? Also, which game system are you running?

sure.

I have two PCs on my desk and go to my player PC and grab percentiles and drop them into the dice tower. On the DM screen it shows up as a GM roll. On the player chatbox screen it shows my character's icon like it should.

It doesn't matter which die I grab and throw in the dice tower - it happens with them all.

However, when I open my character sheet and select one (say....wisdom saving throw), and I grab it and drop it into the dice tower from the character sheet, it works fine.

I'm not seeing that on my side. I just tried in a 5E campaign in the most recent Live version of the rulesets; and it appears to work fine to me.
I tried rolling from desktop and from save on character sheet first on GM client, then on player client. (assuming 5E ruleset, since you didn't mention the game system).
(See screen clip attached.)

Can you try in a brand new campaign without extensions to see if you still see the issue?

ok - I just created a new campaign and tried it. No extensions loaded. Same problem. 5e campaign. I just had my player PC grab percentiles from the desktop and drop into dice tower and it shows up as GM roll within GM chat screen. Not sure what to do or try next.

Generic dice rolls currently show up as GM dice rolls; per my picture above. Is that what you are talking about?

I asked several players to roll a generic D100 (rather than me rolling them) in the dice tower. When they rolled, they all came up on my screen at GM having rolled them - so I couldn't tell which player rolled which number.

Thanks for working through that with me; I see what you are talking about now. I'll see if I can determine how to handle that, since general dice rolls are different behavior than specific roll types.

Apparently, this has been the default behavior for dice tower and generic rolls (at least for many years).

I've pushed an update as part of the Test channel changes to use a fallback to determine the owning actor when it's not part of the dragged roll. (i.e. generic dice vs. roll from character sheet)

This will be Live when we do the larger release later this month.

ok thanks much. As I was thinking about it, I was wrong when I said it recently changed. The prior player rolls were from their char sheets, so this would have been the first time it hit me in my campaign. Thanks again.
