I'm just getting back into Fantasy Grounds after some time away, so you'll have to forgive me. I combed through the update notes, but couldn't find anything and my Google searches have been fruitless.

When I used to run games in FG, encounter links were visible on the battlemaps. I know there has been a reorganization of the data of sorts. I can see as you progress through the story, the map and encounter links are there. However, I found it helpful to open a map and see where the encounters were located. I know I can drag them back there myself, but I'm just wondering if there's a way to toggle visibility of them back on. They were really helpful for me as a GM.

For example, opening the various maps to the Tomb of Annihilation module, I see the story links, but no encounter links anywhere on the maps. Yes, the story links for the various rooms have the encounters embedded in them. Again, it was just a nice visual for me to quickly see when the players were going into a room that there would be an encounter.

Thanks.

The general standard is to link the story entry and have any details for that location within the story entry - images, encounters, etc.. Different converters can do things differently, so there may be the occasional product out there that also links the encounter directly to the map, but it's not the norm.

Thanks, Trenloe. But just to confirm: This is a change, correct? I'm not crazy for remembering other 5e modules having the encounter links on the map before?

Nope, it's not a change. Like I said, some converters may have done this so there may be some products out there with encounter links directly on the map; or it may have been done if a specific scenario situation warranted putting encounter links directly on a specific map.

Okay, thank you. I guess I was away for too long, or I'm getting old.

Can you share a picture of what you are seeing (or not seeing)? Tomb of Annihilation should have encounters linked directly to the map since it is a WOTC 5E product. I have noticed that they can be really small and hard to see.

ToA is a WotC product, but as is standard for FG modules it has story links, not encounter links. The stories will have links to the encounter in them.

Yeah, my bad. Encounter links are usually not added, just the story links. Got em confused. Gonna keep my fingers off the keyboard and let the adults type!

Thank you. I was just logging in to screenshot it for him.

It was pretty standard if you were playing FG classic with a "book in your lap" to just make monster encounters and pin them to a map. You didn't need story entries since you were reading the "story entry" data from a book or PDF to your players. With that style of play, the minimum for running a game in FG is usually just a map and monster encounters.

That was more true before Smiteworks got licenses to make official products, where you didn't need a book or PDF to read from.
