Which game? Are you referring to a specific campaign session? Digital Adventures' upcoming Call of Cthulhu ruleset?

The CoC ruleset is a licensed product of the Chaosium rpg.

I believe the ruleset will be based on the version 6 rulebook from Chaosium, as I think you've asked and Digital Adventures have announced here. If the rulebook mentions those authors, I guess they'll be in there. If not, then they won't be. I don't know how much of the rulebook will be translated as modules. At a guess: the character stuff, basic GM rules, and the monsters/creatures.

I don't have the rulebook myself yet ... thought the release of the ruleset could well convince me to buy version 6 and go back to running Cthulhu again.

The ruleset is based on 6th edition Call of Cthulhu and contains pretty much the full text of the rulebook. Monsters, spells etc are drawn from a wide selection of Mythos authors, not just Lovecraft.

The players only get to see a subset of the rules, while the Keeper gets to see the full monty. There are still a chunk of graphics assets to convert, but other than that we are now in play-testing mode.

The ruleset will be demonstrated at GenCon, for those who are going.

Thanks for the response. So, the CoC ruleset will include all the 'neat stuff' to make an adventure...houses, furniture, landscape features and the like? I run pen & paper CoC events now but will be buying this ruleset and even try to run an adventure with it if I can over come my lack of computer programing:square:

Guess it will ready to buy soon after GenCon? Will it be digital downlaod only?

thx

I'm not sure I understand your question: FG rulesets don't allow you to make computer adventure games, they allow you to run pen and paper games over the internet.

You therefore get all the same (text) materials that you'd get in the CoC rulebook and the keeper/player sheets to record (manually) the information you need to run a game. There aren't any map/3d assets in the product, if that's what you mean, and you don't have to program anything.

If you have FG now, what you already have with the d20 ruleset is pretty much what you'll get for CoC.

As regards availability, we'll know a bit more about timing once the play testing gets a bit further, as I think that will give us a better idea of its readiness.

I think Digital Adventures (the company producing the ruleset) tend to sell for download only. Right now the draft ruleset is about 10-11Mb, but that might change once the final artwork is included.

Hope that helps a bit, but feel free to come back with supplementary questions.

Cheers

I'm looking forward to the CoC ruleset!

Now my only remaining beef is with FGII itself.... with its mediocre (weak) media support and lack of audio. Call of Cthulhu is supposed to be a horror-based atmospheric game. The ability to stream or play audio clips (or ambient MP3s) would enhance the ambient effect even better.

Sure, the addition of audio or multimedia strengths still won't make Virtual Tabletop Cthulhu as good as a real tabletop game. But that's besides the point, I guess. People who will spend money to play over VTs are the ones who have a hard time getting a group of local gamers together in the first place.

Much luck to Digital Adventures in launching a successful... and long-awaited product!

I think some folks use other programs to provide ambient sound/music, check out Nezzir's post here:

Well I reckon if you are sat in your room with the lights off and your VTT DM does manage to get some atmospheric audio fed with shocking imagery it'll be better than all being sat around a table whilst Dave slurps his Mountain Dew :)

What? Dave drinking his mountaindew sloppily is an EXCELLENT mood-thing for fish-men trying to drink someone's liver...
