View Full Version : Maps crashing since update

A few maps have been silently crashing when opened (blank, with blank in the layers/editing section). When clicking the button to expand them to the desktop, the console reports the following error:

[3/15/2026 1:09:51 PM] [ERROR] API: System.InvalidOperationException: No head found. Cycle or invalid data. at DAAODGMMAPE.IIEFABIBPOE (System.Collections.Generic.List`1[T] HKLENLFEHIE) [0x00096] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at DAAODGMMAPE.JDBKBKCOKGD () [0x00071] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at FG.ImageControlUI.NBKPLCGIFNM (FAMHIHGHNFC BHLCOBGDGPC, LKBBEJPOGJG ONBOFNKGDJI) [0x00047] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at FG.ImageControlUI.BuildImage () [0x0009f] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at HDACBIMOOAJ.NBFPBOBCPOB (UnityEngine.Vector2 CKEBNJKBOBJ, System.Double EJGCGPDDFNB) [0x0002b] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at LBOKCEJMKEH.FINOEJDLGOO (HDACBIMOOAJ JONBOGMOEOM, System.Int32 PHEIFCEIGBH) [0x00039] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0 at HDACBIMOOAJ.CNGFAPKBEFF (System.IntPtr FAMBEIDCDAM) [0x0000e] in <b600322ea27a4b56b7e84cd63d093a92>:0

google ai "believes" it has to do with folders/layers being incorrectly parented/siblinged into a recursive loop.

tried all backups--none fix the maps in question.

checked the map images themselves. They're fine.

turned off all extensions. Issue persists regardless.

In the db.xml: In the layers section of one of the maps in question, I removed all folders code, as well as changed all parentid tags to a simple <parent />, and removed all sibling tags, and that at least lets the map run, but only the one bitmap not in a folder survived (or rather, is visible to the host). Tokens exist on map, and the ray tracing line of sight wall mechanics still function when a token is selected, even though the layer with said wall mechanics tied to it doesn't render in the layers section.

tried re-parenting them to a new folder, but wasn't able to--might be too exhausted to brain-make-work.

I assume v5.1.6 restructured layering, and-or fixed whatever weas making the layer system wonky the past month (when these maps were made). The wonkiness causing some layers to incorrectly attribute who their parent/sibling is, causing the loop only now, after 5.1.6 fixed the issue allowing the corruption.

maps were working last week at session time Sunday, and on Monday.

I'll try fixing the sibling/parent structure in the db.xml tomorrow myself, but I'd love any advice, or uh... reassurance of a patch-patch or... Etc.

Thank you for taking the time.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

That error was reported earlier here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?86972-Problem-after-Update

I reached out to the SmiteWorks devs and they have a fix lined up, I don't know when it'll be pushed to live.

Ran updater, started campaign, however the issue persists with no perceivable difference (beyond the error report (see below)).

The console error is moderately different. Here are the compared differences, with their timestamps, in one screenshot: 66818

Here's the new error in text (the previous error in text is in the opening post, above):

Thanks for the follow-up. I'll need a copy of your campaign. https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1725825027/How+to+ZIP+Your+Campaign+for+Support+Developers

Do you know the name of the map that is presenting the issue? (Edit: never mind, I see that it is the image that is open).

See if this this db.xml fixes the issue for you.

Whatever you did, does indeed appear to have fixed all affected maps. Impressive.

I hope my issues were helpful towards solving a wider issue. If not, and you helped me out just for my sake, that's very kind of you; thank you.

If you need anything else, hit me up. I appreciate your time and expertise.

Is there another fixed being pushed out for this? I have also experienced apparently corrupted maps, and today's new version has not fixed the issue for me.

[EDIT] The issue has popped up in multiple campaigns.

[EDIT] pindercarl has confirmed in the other thread, linked above, that this is actively being worked on. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?86972-Problem-after-Update&p=760405&viewfull=1#post760405

Getting the same issue with crashing map records, after recent fixes, this time specific to duplicating a layer inside a folder.

Duplicate Layer -> Layer panel flickers continuously -> Reopen image -> Image and edit panel are both blank.

I have changes submitted and verified that the issue is resolved with those changes. The fix will be available in the next update. I appreciate your patience.

[5.5E - latest FGU release version]

I'm adding an issue report in this thread, as it may be related. If this is confirmed to be a new, unrelated issue, feel free to move to a new thread.

In last night's session, I (DM) attempted to share a map with my players using the Public/Not Shared toggle icon. When doing so, every player received console errors and the map window opened with no content showing within. I was able to get the compiled logs from one of my player's system, and I'm attaching them here for your information.

However, I was successfully able to share the map with all of the players if I dragged the Record Link to each of their character portraits one-by-one. When sharing it that way, it opened on their systems without error.

I've never seen this type of issue before, and thought it would be worthwhile to share. Let me know if more information is needed.
