OSE Classic One-Shot — Looking for Players!
Hi everyone! I’m going to be running a one-shot Old-School Essentials (Classic Fantasy) game.
🗓 Date & Time: Jan/18/ 5:00 Pm PST
🖥 VTT: Fantasy Grounds Unity (now free for everyone)
🎭 System: OSE Classic Fantasy (class and race the same)
📈 Character Level: 3
👥 Players Needed: 4–6
🧙*♂️ About the GM
This will be my first time running and playing OSE.
I’ve played AD&D back in the day and have run D&D 3e, 5e, as well as Cyberpunk 2013, 2020, and Red for several years.
Because of that, I may occasionally mix up or misremember a rule.
If that happens, I’m totally fine with quick corrections during play — for example:
“Hey Wulf, the rule for that is actually X.”
We’ll either go with the rule as written or, for one-off situations, I might say:
“Got it — let’s do it this way for now.”
The goal is to keep things moving and fun. 🙂
⚔️ The party has worked together for some time as adventurers and mercenaries.
Their most recent contract involved escorting a group of merchants to establish businesses in a newly founded crossroads settlement, Blackford Cross—a town already beginning to boom and widely expected to grow into a major city within a few short years.
After a long, exhausting month on the road, the party finally relaxes in a local tavern, enjoying warm food, strong drink, and the comfort of a roaring fire.
The job paid less than expected—several merchants did not survive the journey—but two grateful survivors promise the party a permanent 5% discount at their shops once business is established.
After two days of rest and spending coin, the party receives a formal letter requesting a meeting with the local lord, Baron Aldric Thornwyck.
The Baron explains:
His daughter, Lady Elisabeth Thornwyck, is to be married in one month to Sir Corvin Greymark, son of the Duke.
He wishes to hire the party to escort her safely to Sir Corvin’s keep.
The journey will take approximately two weeks.
The escort proceeds without incident. The party arrives at the keep in the early afternoon, is warmly received, granted hospitality for the night, and generously resupplied the next morning for the return journey.
On the way back, the party chooses to leave the main road and take a lesser-used shortcut—one that saves nearly three days of travel, provided no wagons are used.
After the first day on this path, the party makes a horrifying discovery.
They find the Duke’s son—and several of his men—dead along the trail.
An investigation reveals the bodies have been there for at least a week.
And so the question becomes…
If the Duke’s son is dead…
Who did the party just deliver the Baron’s daughter to?
Do they:
Race back to the keep in hopes of rescuing her?
Ride hard to warn the Baron of what has happened?
