View Full Version : Fonts in the Text image tool appear to be broken

Hello,
v5.1.1
Looking through all of the different fonts available in the Text tool for images, they appear to be broken such that they are unaligned and some characters partially fall outside of the text box (so they are abruptly cut off).
At first the only font that worked correctly for me was Noto Sans. I reloaded the campaign with no extensions to check, and the only font that worked correctly changed to Bebas Neue, where Noto Sans started behaving weirdly.

Thanks.
We had reports with the text rendering using Linux when running from Steam rather than running the program directly. Other than that, do the notification effects or pointer distance text appear normally? They use the same font rendering.

Both the new notifications and the pointer distance text appears fine.
I'm also on Windows, and not running from Steam.

I found a bug with the image layer text rendering and have submitted a fix. This should be available whenever the next update is released.

I'm not sure which update would address this issue, but as of 5.1.2 this problem is still occurring. See linked video below for an example:

Thanks for the report, I'm taking a look at this now.

Yeah. Only the Bebas Neue font works with the English keyboard layout; in other layouts, the font doesn’t work.

Just pushed v5.1.3 that should fix the issue. Please run a new Check for Updates, and let us know if still having issues.

v5.1.3
I'm afraid I've just experienced this again. Brand new campaign (was reproducing a separate bug), no extensions.

Thanks. I've escalated to Carl again. Can you provide the steps you followed, just to make sure he can recreate locally?
Thanks,

Hmm, I can't seem to recreate it on a new image record like I did when I just posted previously, but can with a module image. It seems to be linked to the issue I posted about separately here in that it can also cause the disappearing layers: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?86804-Disappearing-Image-Layers
Steps to recreate this font issue:
1) Load "Thirst For Blood" module.
2) Open "Camazotz's Cavern player map" image record. Or "En-Gokal Intake player map" image record.
3) Unlock the image record, opening up the toolbars on the right.
4) Go to Text tab.
5) Add some text.
6) Change the font.
7) Notice the messed up text
Also, related to the other issue linked above about disappearing (text) layers, it seems that hiding the grid isn't the only thing that causes that:
8) Click "Revert Changes To Module Record" in top left of image window.
9) Notice how most of the text layers in the "Map Labels" folder disappear (or sometimes even all of them)
Thanks.

Aha, I think I found it.
1) New image record, add single tile layer as background (mainly so I can see it).
2) Place text with different fonts.
3) Enable lighting on Play tab.
4) All fonts but first one mess up.
5) Disable lighting on Play tab to fix fonts.

Thanks for the extra detective work. I haven't been able to reproduce and these steps should help.

This should be fixed in v5.1.4 released today. Please run a new Check for Updates, and let us know if still having any issues.
