View Full Version : Creating a random hoard

Can anyone point me to some documentation about creating parcels?
I'm trying to create a dragon's hoard (ideally as a parcel), and I'm having trouble. I want the hoard to contain coins, gems, and maybe some items. I could create it manually, but ideally I'd like it to be created randomly after the PCs deal with the dragon.
I tried using a Story Template (which seems like a good way). The Generate button created a story entry, but I couldn't figure out how to generate a parcel.
I tried using tables and sub-tables. I was able to generate a parcel of random coin amounts (using entries like [4d6*1000] SP), but couldn't figure out how to do that for gems, for example [1d6] [Gemstones (50 gp)].
I looked in the Loot section of some dragon NPCs, but they only have coins.
I tried asking AI, and it suggests using the Quantity/Count column on a table, but I don't see anything like that.
I'm sure this must be possible. I'm open to using an extension if that's necessary.
Thanks!

Drop the item you want into one of the results cells in the table so that it's linked (you'll see the item icon next to the cell), then add the random amount at the beginning of the item's name in the form [1d6x]:

Documentation here https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/996640986/Using+Tables+to+Create+Random+Results#Random-Treasure-Table
For items drag them into the table to create a link and then position your cursor between the link and the name and type in the format [ndnx] Where ndn is a dice string and 'x' is a multiplier (you can also have [yx] where y is a whole number. You can also link a table to any column or row and roll multiple times on that table. So for your Gemstones (50gp) the string would be [1d6x][Gemstones (50gp)] or just do the above and link the table and insert the [1d6x] between the link and the table name.

Edit: there are a number of random treasure tables in the 2014 DMG if you have that book.

Don't forget to set the table output to "parcel"

As Zac mentioned the DMG has tables for treasure hoards for each tier. If you make a copy of the table and then change the output from chat to parcel, as LordEntrails mentioned, the table will then generate a hoard parcel.
If you are playing D&D 2024, note the Legacy DMG has hoard tables with much better variety and the total amounts are the same. I assume they cut the variety in the newer DMG for page count reasons so even for 2024 play I would suggest you use the older DMG for treasure - just keep in mind if you do hit a magic item to use the items out of the newer DMG. They updated a decent number of magic items.

Yep, those tables are nice, thanks!
I think the main "trick" I missed was using the "x" after the roll spec, when you want multiple table results. I had started with coins, which doesn't need that (since it's just a quantity).

Yeah, that's important for treasure tables and random monster encounters as well. :)
I forgot to mention the Individual Treasure tables from the older DMG are better than the newer ones as well.
