Hi all,
I am trying to create a psionic character in FG. The character has three talents - telekinesis, awareness, and telepathy. I can find Telekinesis under the PSI abilities table, and when I drag that across to the Skills tab on the character sheet it adds it correctly, and populates the Action tab with the relevant abilities. All good. However I cannot find Awareness or Telepathy on the PSI Abilities table. I also cannot see a way to add a PSI Talent manually on the skills tab.
Any ideas please?

You are doing things correctly. Each PSI Ability has a hidden field that shows its PSI Ability. For example, Assault falls under Telepathy.

What you see under PSI Abilities are the individual skills you see listed in the Core rulebook under the category they belong to. Telepathy or Awareness is not actually PSI Abilities, but rather the overall category of the skills listed under them. So, if you were to drag Assault to the PSI Talents area, Telepathy will show up and on the Skills tab you will see Assault listed under PSI Abilities on the Actions Tab. Also note, that even though you just dragged Assault over, you will see all the abilities listed under Telepathy on the Actions tab. This is because you get access to all those abilities when you have Telepathy listed on the Skills tab as per the Core rules.

This would also be the case if you dragged over Enhanced Strength from the PSI Abilities list. You will see Awareness on the Skills tab and then all the Abilities listed under Awareness would be available on the Actions Tab for that character to potentially use.
Confusing? Yes. But, this works this way in the current version of the ruleset because that is how the person that programmed it felt it should be done.
Hope this helps.

That really does help and solves the problem.
The confusion I still have is that under PSI Abilities - Clairvoyance, Telekinesis and Teleportation - are included as Categories. So you can drag the Category across. However for some reason I don't understand Awareness and Telepathy have not been included as a Category to be dragged across to the Skills tab.
However as you say, the workaround is to just drag across one of the underlying abilities.
Thanks again

you are not actually dragging the Category across. Notice Clairvoyance, Telekinesis and Teleportation are Categories and under them are Abilities with the same names. That is not the case with Telepathy or Awareness.
I think the original ruleset developer should have just had the Categories that you dragged across that would then populate the Ability area on the Actions tab. But, alas, this is what we have.

I wanted to fix this up, but it was already a bit half finished when I went through the clean up. I didn't also want to mess up the data that was placed there and cause issues there. I get painted into a corner when I have to assist in fixing up a ruleset made by someone else. Need to work within their database scheme and so on.

Its all good. I know what its like to work on someone else's code and having to divine what they were thinking when they created it.
Hopefully, someday someone will get enough cycles to be able to clean things up and complete the ruleset.

My fault. Now I understand. The point about ability and category being the same for three of them hadn’t clicked.
Thank you

All fine. It would be cleaner if it was just the categories however it works fine as is.
Thanks for all the work you are doing on this ruleset.

Just a thought - it may have been done this way to support custom categories and abilities. I just added two custom abilities under a new category, dragged one across to the Skills tab, and it worked great.
If the PSI Abilities table was just the five categories, then you could add a new category, but would need additional functionality to add abilities to an existing or new category.
Hence I think this was probably done deliberately make it easy to add new abilities under an existing category, or an entirely new category with new abilities.
Cheers

I have notes for a better way, but need a bit of time with it to not fully break it and test it out a bit. Right now I'm maintaining over double digit rulesets, R&D projects, and other projects like <redacted>. So it's a bit of a juggling act to give the needed time to some systems.
