After the update to 5.1 I've noticed a spike in GPU usage when opening a map. I've done some testing, and it's worse on older campaigns than new ones, but as you start using the map in a new campaign you can replicate the performance degradation. Tested in both my main desktop PC and my Macbook Pro M1 and I can see very high GPU usage in both machines, with older campaigns and fresh new ones.
These are te steps I've been doing to replicate it, with FPS limited to 60, on a 4k HDR monitor.
1. Create a new campaign. 6% GPU usage in the empty main menu (high for not be showing anything, but whatever).
2. Create a new map using a 4080x2720 .jpg image (file attached for reference). GPU usage at 15%.
3. Add ambient light and 4 point lights. GPU usage to 19%.
4. Add an FX layer, rain for example. GPU usage to 22%.
5. Enable the grid and place one NPC token on the map. GPU usage to 49%.
6. Add two character tokens to the map. GPU usage to 59%.
My desktop has the following specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 5080
- RAM: 64 GB DDR5
- Monitor: 4k HDR 240hz
