View Full Version : FG V 5.1.0 crashing.

Hi,

Since the update I've had a few problems, one of which has been mentioned elsewhere, I get a Run time error and then FG shuts down.

Also, when I load up the current campaign all the modules have to be selected again. When it crashes or hangs I have to redo this again.

Also experimenting with the chat and image or chat and token doesn't work and just causes my PC to hang. Oddly 'generic' chat seems to work ok.

Ruleset is PF2e, all extensions disabled.

I think I'll wait till the FG heroes have vanquished the naughty gremlins. Hope the info helps.

We pushed an update about 4 hours ago that fixes several issues like that. Please run a new Check for Updates, and let us know if still having issues.
If so, please zip up your campaign folder, and provide a link; so that we can investigate.

Thanks guys, much much better seems stable now. However still have a couple of issues.

Whisper seems to be broken. It would be cool if whispers were also taken out of the chat and displayed on screen.

The system doesn't seem to understand numerals.
So if I have 4 Ogre Warriors and I assign the speaker as Ogre Warrior 2 the text only appears in the chat.
If I assign the speaker as Ogre Warrior it works but defaults to Ogre Warrior 1.
If I change 'Ogre Warrior 2' to 'Ogre Warrior two' in the assign speaker thing and change the name in the combat tracker it all seems to work really well.

I think this is a really useful addition and hopefully will claw back a little 'real estate'

The numbering of NPCs isn't part of their name on the CT (numbers are added post adding to the CT). So if you want to have a specific individual talk then they'll need to be specifically named so that the chat will identify them correctly.

I may be missing the point about whispers but those are supposed to be 'secret' between either the DM and player or two players. If they appeared on screen everyone would see them.

Would using either of these NPC naming extensions help:

https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/2386/view

https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/290/view

My players love the little bit of 'flavour' that these renamings add, and it should help liven up the chat bubbles.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Simon

Ok thanks.

I wondered if there was a way that the whispers could appear only on the screens of the whisperer and whisperee (and the DM).

I still find it a little counter intuitive that in the combat tracker Goblin 1,2,3,4 whatever doesn't work but if I change their name to Goblin one, Goblin two in the combat tracker it works.

I think my workaround will be to name the creatures beforehand as part of my prep and within the encounter text save the names so that I can copy and paste them into the combat tracker.

Yeah, that's another possible workaround. I would then have to copy those names into the speech text prompt thingy.

You can change the name in the encounter when you are building it. Drag in an NPC rename it, drag in another, rename that etc. When you add the encounter to the CT it will use the name on the encounter.

Ah yes, of course.

However I was thinking more of published adventures but it will still work.

We're currently finishing off three eyed gaze. So all I would have to do is (as part of prep) is delete the 'goblins' x 4 from the encounter and then add four separate goblins and change their name to Moe, Larry, Curly and Hardy and then pre generate any chat text I want.

Gotta say this is a great update, I think the group is gonna love it.

Minor criticism is that the text doesn't stay up very long and if it's a longish bit of speech it might not be up long ehough.

Thanks guys!

I've updated the speech -> actor mapping to check exact name in CT first; and then fall back to "base name" (name without numbers). Run a new Check for Updates to get the latest.

@Oladahn,

You mentioned that whispers were broken above; but they appear to be working for me. They are designed like an MMO whisper where the GM can whisper to specific PCs, and back.

They are working now. They wouldn't work yesterday. It kept on saying there was no one of that name available.

I was hoping the update could somehow make the whisper visible on the image like the speech bubbles but only (obviously) for the whisperer and whisperee (and the GM obvs).
