View Full Version : Constant Crashing from Player Sessions

In tonight's game we updated to 5.1. The player's sessions constantly kept dropping. Eventually someone got a C++ error. The players also reported that memory was grabbing everything it could. It was unplayable tonight. I tried to go from Live to Prev channel, but then that was taking a long time so we didn't wait for it to finish.
I, as host and DM, did not experience any issues.
I know it's a mistake to upgrade before a game. But we had one player do it and so we all thought.. why not.

As a follow up, we rejoined and didn't experience the issue again. We had played for an hour or so before the disconnects starting occurring and then played another hour or so after with no issues after a 30 minute break.

Had the same issue while testing out the update.

If you are getting an error; please press the Compile Logs button immediately after it happens and post here.
If it causes a full crash; press the Logs button in the upper left of the launch screen after restarting FG, and press the Compile Logs button.
Otherwise, we don't have any details on how to recreate or look for the issue.
We may also ask for a zipped up copy of the campaign folder after that based on the reports, but you can provide in advance via Dropbox or Google Drive link.

Getting a lot of crashes with the new version while working on a conversion of a PDF. Mostly just loading new assets, adding them to story entries, adding text and what not. Usual flows when making new FG books. Happening often enough that it's really hard to work with, crashing every few edits (which don't always gets saved). This is pretty bad.
Performance is worse than before today's update. The whole computer is getting chunky... that's my clue it's about to crash... (this is a pretty high-end gaming rig, too).
I ran a game earlier, and it worked fairly well; one player got kicked out a few times due to mysterious crashes, but things eventually stabilized on his end.
As others have reported, it's eating up ALL the memory, as of this writing, while doing nothing with FG other than loading the campaign; it's over 20,000MB and still climbing rapidly.

Thanks for the info. We believe this may be related to a memory situation that Carl is looking at now.

Excellent! Got an ETA on a fix? All work on this conversion is halted as a result of this.

Carl is actively looking at it today, and planning to work on it until it is fixed. We're hoping by this afternoon or end of today; but could slip into tomorrow depending on what it takes to fix.

BTW, just saw an FG update come through, didn't fix the crash if it was supposed to. Memory is still going wild and then after a bit BOOM!
If you need the campaign, I can zip it up and send it somewhere private (I don't own the IP for this, and it's a conversion for another company I'm working with, so I'm not going to put it somewhere public). I could put it on my Rempelstiltskin shared DropBox I have with you guys if it comes to that.

It completely crashed my computer. Had to do a hard reset. PC wouldn't recognize my second monitor and had to reboot that as well. Yikes!

Carl is still actively looking at any conditions like this. We pushed a hot fix about 3.5 hours ago that fixed some of them.
If you are still having an issue, please post a zipped up copy of your campaign folder, and let us know the name of the map you are opening when it happens.
Thanks,

My server is crashing without any apparent Memory Leak or error message.

As mentioned above, please provide a copy of your campaign folder zipped up as well as the name of any maps you have open at the time?
Thanks,

Still having the issue, sounds like it's map related now so that helps me a bit. If I close the map I had up with layer effects on it I see memory usage stabilize.
I uploaded the campaign to the dropbox we have (Smiteworks_for_Rempelstiltskin_Productions_LLC)
It's called LeakyCampaign.zip. There's only two maps in there, they both have effects and can show the issue.

@Gilafron, @Temmpest, @drempel, @Hjorimir,
Just pushed another hot fix that addresses an issue specifically with FX layers that could cause a memory leak.
Can you run a new Check for Updates; and let us know if you are still having issues?
@drempel,
For future, the developers don't have access to the publisher/developer DropBox folders; it's managed by Doug/James.

Looks good so far. Memory usage is stable while the maps are open.
Didn't really have a way to get it to you that I was comfortable with except through that channel. Figured if you really needed it, you'd find a way (Like Doug or James would give it to a dev).
