DESCRIPTION
Encounter Groups extends the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition encounter system by adding an optional Group field to each encounter entry. NPCs that share the same Group value are automatically placed onto the same Action Card (Combat Tracker group) when the encounter is added to the Combat Tracker.
This brings the convenience of Saved Battles grouping directly into standard encounters—without saving CT state, tokens, effects, or other overhead.
WHAT THIS EXTENSION DOES
Adds a Group field to each NPC entry in an encounter
NPCs with the same Group value are added to the same Combat Tracker group
NPCs without a Group behave exactly like vanilla encounters
EXAMPLE
If three encounter entries all have the Group Field defined as:
Group A
They will be placed on the same Action Card when added to the combat tracker. Entries with a different value, eg Group B, will form their own group on a separate Action Card. Entries with no value will follow standard behavior, eg Each NPC type will be added on its own Action Card.
WHY USE ENCOUNTER GROUPS?
By default, adding an encounter places each NPC type on a separate Action Card.
Saved Battles can preserve grouping—but they also snapshot CT state you may not want.
Encounter Groups gives you the best of both worlds:
Precise control over Action Card grouping
Lightweight encounter workflow
No CT state capture
No scripting required by the GM
