I have the critical hit and fumble table on in settings and it's loaded under modules. When I roll a 1 or 20, the dice rolls for the crit table but it doesn't show the hit or fumble effect, I just get a text word in the chat window that says "ouch!" Advice on what I'm doing wrong?

Which ruleset are you using? When posting in forums that aren't specific to a ruleset you should always mention which ruleset you're using as each ruleset can do things differently.

Oh, sorry. I always forget to say which one. It's 5E

The standard critical/fumble tables for 5E first roll a d6 on the "Critical Hit" table and only if that results in a 5 or 6 will a d20 be rolled on the "Critical Hit Effect" table. If there's a 1-4 rolled on the first d6 then chat will just say "CRITICAL HIT". As you're seeing "Ouch!" in chat, this sounds like you have another table called "Critical Hit" being called. Check in the FG tables for a table called "Critical Hit" and see how that is setup.

If you can't identify what's causing the issue, please provide a screenshot of the chat window when this issue occurs.

Oh, I see that now. Is there any way to change the numbers to make the effect tables go into effect every time no matter what comes up on the 6? Assuming just put in 1-6 on both?

Yeas, just edit the base "Critical Hit" table row/s as required.

It didn't work. I changed both rows on hit and fumble to 1-6, rolled a 20 and a 1 and nothing showed.

You bet! And thanks for your help.

As previously mentioned, "ouch!" isn't on the standard "Critical Hit" table, plus chat is showing that a d20 is being rolled for the "Critical Hit" table, so the standard tables in your screenshot aren't being used. Check for another table called "Critical Hit" or review the extensions you have enabled that may be overriding standard functionality.

Remove the first row, so there is only 1 row and it references the lookup table.

FG is automatically rolling a d6 behind the scenes and then it resolves on the first row, which is Ouch.

OK, I turned off a crit extension for skill rolls, that was the only one that was on. Odd that it rolls a 20 instead of a 6. I can't figure that one out. The fumble rolls a 6 but still no effect being activatied.

Ok, I took out the first row. It's still rolling a 20 for some reason. I even put in a custom d6. It does work for the critical fumbles now, however.

So the default critical hit/fumble tables have two tables for each possibility. In each case the first table rolls a d6 and decides whether it's a normal crit or fumble and if you roll a 4-6 then it rolls a d20 on further table which determines what the additional effect is.
So in the case of the fumble, for example, on a 4-6 on the Fumble table it rolls on the Fumble Effect Table. If you want to change the parameters or have your own effects following a crit or fumble you'll need to edit these two files. So if you want a Fumble Effect to happen on every fumble then edit the Fumble table to have only one row and edit the from/to numbers to whatever you want (it doesn't need to be a d6 or indeed any kind of dice roll - a 1-1 will do the job, just as long as the only row calls the Fumble Effect table. The same goes for the Critical hit table.

If you want to edit what happens when there's a fumble or crit then you'll need to edit the Fumble Effect and Critical Hit Effect tables. Again it doesn't matter how many rows there are on this table. The only thing you mustn't do is change the names of the Critical Hit and Fumble tables. You can add your own critical and fumble effects tables as long as you add the same name to the Fumble and Critical Hit table so that your table is called rather than the default tables.

The d6 based critical hit table you're showing isn't being called. Search for another table called "Critical Hit".

5-6, not 4-6. Otherwise your post was spot on! ;)

@Shandorf - deactivate the "Default Fumble and Critical Hit Tables" module and search in the FG Tables list for Critical Hit - if you can't find a table called Critical Hit, then please ZIP up your campaign and post it in htis thread - details on how to do this can be found in the FG Wiki here: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1725825027/How+to+ZIP+Your+Campaign+for+Support+Developers

I deactivated the Critical Hit and Fumble function and looked for the table and found it. Here it is.

Assuming you don't want to use that table, just delete it and reactivate the standard module. You may need to edit the standard Critical Hit table once the module is activated.

That worked! Just deleted the table. Thank you so much!
