View Full Version : Issue with adding animations onto Light effects

Hello,

I just noticed this last night, so not sure how long it has been happening. But when I add a LIGHT: ?? effect onto the combat tracker certain things no longer seem to work.

For instance: Light 20 torch, works fine. But anything I add with a split number such as 10/20 does not. The built in effects candle does not seem to work. While it is 0/5 candle, so not very bright, I changed it to 5/10 candle, and nothing, if I change it to LIGHT: 5 candle works.. I used to have an ability that always worked LIGHT: 5 FFC0CB pulse 50. This no longer works.

I went to https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1312784387/Adding+Lights+to+Maps+and+Tokens and tried a variety of the examples with flicker/pulse and none of them worked at all.

This is for Pathfinder 1E. I created a brand new campaign with zero mods, and I get this issue. Sometimes it seems like it adds a very dim light, difficult to tell, as my eyes can be bad, but I know it it not the color light I picked as Cleansing Flame; LIGHT:20 0000FF flicker 50 >> does not work, but as soon as I remove the flicker 50, instant blue light.

Was anything changed recently that I need to check in the options? I did not see anything

Note: I also saw the hexa colors were changed to 8 digits on the examples page, I tried those as well, and none of them worked.

This seems to be working for me. (you won't see the flicker in the screenshot but it's there). One thing is that the colour has 4 pairs of digits the first being the alpha channel; maybe missing that out has some undesirable effect (but I kinda tested that as well and it doesn't seem to make things not work).

What are you doing different to me?

Colors can either be specified RRGGBB or AARRGGBB. If you leave out the alpha, it is assumed to be 255 (no transparency).

Yeah, that's what I thought but I mentioned it just in case. I also just notice my screenshot was actually just the RGB colours so that's certainly not the issue.

So I used exactly the Light option you did, still no change. I was adding it directly to the combat tracker, but I created an action like you did and nothing. No light. However I did notice, as I moved around the map, it was making circles in the darkness, as if a light was on, but I am not seeing any light. I even logged in as a player and did not see any light. I have updated to newest patch, no mods. Could I have some file that is not getting updated?

Can you set everything up and then upload or share your campaign. Give us the next steps (map to open etc) and we can see if we can reproduce or identify the issue.

This was me creating a brand new Pathfinder 1E campaign (Test2). Then I created a new character, added them to combat tracker, Added token to one of the smitework maps, added light effect at the time which did not work. Created an action, and added that to character to no effect.

I have tried custom maps I have created to no effect either. Messed around with map settings, nothing changed.

So your campaign doesn’t work for me either and I can’t see any obvious issue. It also doesn’t work if I create a character in that campaign but it’s still working in the campaign I created earlier today so I’m stuck for why it’s not working in that campaign. Maybe try deleting the coreRPG.pak and pf1.pak rulesets in your rulesets folder and then update FGVTT. Might also be worth re-installing the client if that doesn’t work.

Ok deleting the rulesets did not work. I am backing all my folders up now, then I will try a re-install.

I created a new campaign after re-downloading the rulesets to same issue.

Ok, I have now deleted all folders/data, reinstalled, and still same issue. Unless there is a folder I am not seeing, I am not certain what is going on here.

I have tried both Steam and windows version to same effect.

Any other ideas?

P.S. Is it possible for you to zip up your test campaign for me to try? I can sift through the db file to see if mine is adding something it should not.

I'm looking at this now. The light parameters are not parsing the way that you are expecting. I'll have to investigate and see where the issue is coming from.

I think I found the issue. Please run a new Check for Updates; and let me know if the new code fixes for you.

Ok, LIGHT: 10 FFFF96C8 flicker 90 (or pulse) works fine. But LIGHT: 10/10 FFFF96C8 flicker 90 (or any X/X) does not work. The basic effect candle 0/5 candle does not work, etc.

Definitely an improvement in the right direction though.

Ok, another fix pushed. Please run another Check for Updates, and try again.

I specifically tested LIGHT effects by tag (torch, candle, ...), single number, and double number.

It is all working as it should now. Thank you so much. Was it just a setting in the code that changed with older campaigns/configutrations?

It had to do with changes to how effects are parsed. Working to consolidate so that they all parse the same (instead of slight variation differences between rulesets); and we were pulling forward some changes to fix another issue that caused this one.
