I've started playing in a legacy 5E campaign. I've found that if I target an NPC on the CT, the clear the target to change targets, I can no longer target the original NPC.
Example: On the CT, I drag the targeting reticle from my character onto Shambling Mound #1. I do my jig. On the next turn I click on the clear target icon and select Mound #2. On turn 3 I want to go back to #1. I clear the target again and can no longer select #1.

Should I be doing something else to change targets?

Not sayin you need to do things this way. You could try just holding CTRL and left-clicking the token on the map or in the tracker to target and remove the target.
It's good knowledge to have. Faster as well.

Thanks for that info. I didn't think about clicking on the token on the CT. That works.
We play face to face with minis on a TV, so don't have tokens on the map to click on. I was able to drop attacks on the target NPC on the CT, but sometimes I "missed" the proper entry on the CT.

I normally play Savage Worlds and do not see this targeting problem in that ruleset.
