Anyone else notice an odd uptick in what feel to me like spambot posts to the blogs? The first couple sound like they could be genuine replies, but then they are starting to sound very similar.

I wonder what's driving that. Is there a different permissions system for comments on blog posts, as opposed to general forum threads? Is it just some form of SEO-padding that can be slipped into websites from low-traffic vectors?

I've noticed it as well. Have wondered about locking the comments on some of the older blogs just to prevent this. Esp given that many of the posts only get spam posts. Don't know if I can actually do that or should. But it's crossed my mind more than once.

There's no mechanism currently to lock the blog comments right now; I have looked too. We're looking into updating the forum software, so hopefully more options soon.

Bloggers themselves have to go entry by enry to turn off comments as of now. So far, after the initial ones they don't swarm my posts.
There4 must be an admin option to turn off all comments, then I'd point out the bot comments for deletion with pleasure.

Btw, I could swear once I saw a section of the site that was something like "Articles" and those were without comments but could serve as blog posts.
What happened to that? (ttgher was no article in it but just the sectiopn)

Edit: Also, please consider adding dark mode?

I personally use Dark Reader as a browser extension to help me use a dark theme on all websites.

At a guess, it may not be anything on the "demand" side (about the blogs here), but rather just that GenAI has caused there to be an order of magnitude more spam bots on the internet generally. Could be that we're getting more here just because there's a whole damn lot more happening now.

Steam is also having this problem in immense scale and some bots are designed to steal user accounts but I don't know how.
In the entire internet, there's only news & complaints and not a single solution.
