Before I buy the 5e ruleset, is it possible to take the maps from a purchased FG module to use in a different FG ruleset?

Yes. You can use this extensions https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/266/view to access a module for one ruleset in a campaign using a different ruleset.

Also you don't need to buy the 5e ruleset. It comes with the install.

Perfect, thanks. I meant, before I purchase the 5e saltmarsh module. Want to know if I can get the maps out of it for a 3.5 campaign.

Maps (images) and stories come across fine. NPCs, Items and things that have ruleset specific attributes will be incomplete.
