NPC Ships have weapons with roll buttons, awesome (as seen in the combat tracker). PC ship confuses me -how do I go about rolling up the attack? I've added crew to the ship which I thought would open some roll options + ship assist, but alas - I'm totally flummoxed :(
I found the answer in the most obvious place:

I bow my head in shame as I can not delete this post.
However, when I try to assign an NPC a ships role, it doesn't save - just stays as passenger.

What edition of the STA rules are you using? I ask, because I'm using 1E and there's no SHIP ACTIONS present on the NPC sheet, so no way to assign a Station. So is that a new feature in 2E?
Otherwise, you can assign a ship station to a PC that isn't listed among the Bridge crew on the Party Sheet. So speaking 1E wise, were I to want the equivalent of a NPC onboard and operating a station, I'd instead build a PC equivalent for them and then select the desired station under their SHIP ACTIONS.
[Edit] if you were referring to a Custom Action, such as you'd be forced to create for a Passenger. Yes, it's not saved between sessions. I don't know if that's by design or a bug.

Hey. I'm using 1e currently. If you drag an NPC character over to the ship on the party sheet it adds them to the ship as a passenger, and then next to their name appears a cog (settings). Click that and there's a drop down list to put the NPC in a role on the ship, but unfortunately it doesn't actually update the passenger status at the moment.

Oh OK, I'm following you now. I don't typically refer to the ship page of the Party Sheet much and its been some time since I dragged a NPC onto it. You're right about the NPC station selection on that page not recognizing your choice. That's why I typically create a PC equivalent for any NPC that's important enough to manage a station.

Yes, it's a great idea - I will be doing the same from now on. Thanks. Happy Star Trek Day! 🖖
