Hi,

Im new to FGU tho i played around with it since before UNITY ver.

me and some friends talking about kicking of playing AD&D again (or DnD as its called these days)

Since im new to FGU, is staring with OSRIC (which i love) asking for trouble? will miss out on a lot of cool features just because im not using 5e?

I really want to play with the dirty, gritty, 1e rules but if using 5e for my 1st couple of campaigns is a better choice to learn FGU im cool with that.

some pointers would be really appreciated.

Hello from Sweden :)

If I remember correctly the OSRIC ruleset runs on top of the AD&D 2e (aka Classic D&D) ruleset which is a very feature rich ruleset. I don't think you'd really miss anything from just starting with OSRIC first.

Yes, OSRIC runs on top of Classic D&D. It's a simplified experience over 2e because it's designed to handle only what's published in OSRIC. It doesn't do quite everything, but it also doesn't have most of the stuff you won't need. For a fuller, more modifiable experience, you can pair it with the AD&D Options and House Rules extension.

this makes me happy, im prepping Temple of elemental evil for osric, remember playing it back in the 80s there is just something special about the Gygaxian era, and its more then just nostalgia :D

Nice. Note that if you're using the D&D Classics module along with OSRIC, you're still going to get the 2E monsters that the author used when creating the module. Not a huge deal, but functionality present in OSRIC does make a best-effort guess (when it can) to replace the monster with the OSRIC equivalent if you have the OSRIC reference materials loaded.
