Hi my 11 yo son wants to learn dnd and play with me, we have both never played before. Is there a way we can use FG to play together but without either of us being the DM?

There are several solo play threads to help you get started that way.
Linking a blog post here for you as those are harder to find:

If you have a ChatGPT subscription and a PDF of the the adventure you want to run you can upload the pdf to ChatGPT and have it be the DM. It's not perfect but it should work in a pinch from a few youtube videos I've watched.

When you solo play, you both sort of take on the role of DM. Many of the tools linked above will help replace some of the decision making the DM makes, but not everything. i.e. FG is not a video game platform :)
Though I had experience as a DM, I played D&D with just my son years ago when he was younger with just the two of us. Though I acted as DM, it was more as a story teller role and was about him helping me tell a story. We used dice and character sheets and such, but we really didn't worry too much about the rules. I suggest a similar approach.
