Hello everyone!

I wanted to post in case anyone missed it that Darrington Press announced during their panel today at Gen Con that Daggerheart is coming soon to Fantasy Grounds.

Get ready to play epic and heartfelt tales of adventure, tuned uniquely by your group for maximum fun at YOUR table. The coming soon page is up here (https://fantasygrounds.com/store/product.php?id=DPDHC), and this will be the eventual store page.

Work has already started on the new ruleset, and we're excited to bring this new game that is taking the hobby by storm to life in Fantasy Grounds - we're taking special care to capture the mechanics and look and feel of Daggerheart to make it the best way to play online.

We'll share previews and more news as we have updates, but in the meantime, thanks for letting your voice be heard with Darrington Press. When we approached them, they shared that Fantasy Grounds was the top request they were getting.

More to come!

As someone who's new to playing non-D&D/Pathfinder systems and especially to waiting for official implementation of digital tools, is there a rough idea/roadmap of when development for the Daggerheart ruleset will be released? I realize this is probably a huge undertaking and will take some time, especially with how different DH plays than the standard system, but it'd be great to have an idea!

Smiteworks do not announce release dates (except for simultaneous release of official DnD products) as development takes time and goes through rigorous testing for new rulesets.

Zerriphan
September 11th, 2025, 04:19
Yeah, I didn't really expect an official release date or roadmap, more just curious whether new rulesets typically take x amount of time. Like, is this something we could see in the next couple of months or almost definitely a 2026 thing?

LordEntrails

My personal expectation is this year. But that's a pretty blind estimate.

@superteddy57 is working furiously on it as we speak. We are keeping him chained in the closet until he finishes; with only some gruel and water every night.

Seriously though, we have @superteddy57 working on it full time; but rulesets are quite large projects, especially when they have new mechanics and we're building out the core books at the same time.

We don't announce timelines for projects like this; because we don't want to release it until it's working AND we're happy with the way it is working. We often go through several cycles of trying ideas and UI to see what works and what doesn't.

We expect sooner than later; and @LordEntrails expectation is where ours is as well.

Regards,
JPG

Ohhh it looks so good! Is it too soon to ask if Transformations and Beastform will be natively supported in the platform? I know some of my players will be eager to get into those and in the 5E ruleset it can be a headache to bridge that functionality.

Thank you for your hard work, I am SO psyched for release!

Yes, I have a solution for both.

Hey, from the looks of it your making significant headway, and it's looking good.

Will the system do a better job of natively supporting reactions / interrupts such as reducing incoming damage via armor (including optional abilities to further enhance this reduction), or abilities that trigger when certain events occur?

Trigger style behavior is generally not supported in many rulesets and have to be manually manipulated after the fact, though there are extensions that offer trigger reaction functionality.

I'm not sure what you are referring to, but there is a button on the character sheet for PCs to use their armor slots to heal themselves after damage has been performed.

Cyrian
September 19th, 2025, 23:29
I think DrakosDJ is referring to something similar to how Requested Rolls with manual entry work - rather than damage being applied first with a button to use armor & heal the damage after the fact, a popup window would appear upon incoming damage with the choice to use an armor slot and/or other abilities that would mitigate damage.

superteddy57
September 20th, 2025, 01:49
Well I went with the process where damage is performed and the player then can use armor slots after the damage is added to the character. This essentially heals the target 1 HP per armor slot used. That's how I've read the concept works is a heal per armor slot used as that deducts the damage by 1.

Cyrian
September 20th, 2025, 02:25
I think this works in most cases. Wondering about scenarios such as a Guardian with max HP of 7 with 6 current marked damage (1 HP remaining) and taking Major Damage (2 HP) which effectively would mark your 1 remaining HP to drop you, but you have the Iron Will feature which allows you to mark an additional armor slot over the normal one, allowing you to soak up all 2 HP of damage with 2 armor slots. If you use an effect after taking the damage, would you incorrectly net to having more health than you started with (healing for 2 to be at 5 marked damage instead of the 6 you started with)?

Basically it's the "over-max" scenarios that need to be backed out after the fact which might cause problems. This would be similar in 5e if you had 10 max HP and 4 damage, then take 8 damage, your damage maxes out at 10. If you then said you could undo that by using a button/effect that heals you for 8 damage putting your current damage at 2 instead of 4, that's incorrect.

Maybe these are just fringe cases that the user needs to manage, which is fine, but worth mentioning during development!

I have placed buttons to aid in adjusting the sheet. The automation to factor that 100% is not in place. As with scenarios with damage that exceeds the maximum, it's up to the player to adjust their sheet by clicking buttons to adjust those resources. With your example, you could click the Armor Slot Use button twice to heal twice and it updates the armor slots used. and then adjust the armor slots down by 1 to compensate for 1 armor slot = 2 hp. Another solution is hitting the armor slot once to heal for the 1 hp and then hitting the minus button to adjust the wounds down by 1. So multiple avenues to adjust the resources. In those situations where even after adjusting that it still is at max or even over, then there's no need to adjust anything and go right into the death moves. I'm open to discussion and take feedback once this is LIVE and would consider all feedback to adjust for better play. This is the solution I've come up with for this particular one.

September 20th, 2025, 03:47
Almost forgot to mention that the abilities tab covers much more in terms of automation. The abilities tab that holds the actions for equipment, cards, and features, has way more automation to help with things. Like a button that will reduce your armor slot by 1 and click another button to heal you for 2 hp. Just many options.

So stoked to know this is going to be a real thing! my game group is actively waiting on this to play our first game, mostly because were spread out across the PNW and FG is our VTT of choice. Everything in that sneak peek image looks super clean and straight forward to me..(though again, haven't played yet, only read the book mostly.)

I'm so excited for this. I had gotten Daggerheart on Demiplane for Roll20 use.. and then of course they announced it's coming to Fantasy Grounds. My group is stoked to play this, and I'm so darn happy to know it's coming to FG! Can't wait for this! Thank you all so much!

Wow, what a good news! I cant wait to play it on Fantasy Grounds! Im playing too in Roll20 plus Demiplane, and Demiplane characters sheets has some good automation, but I would really love to migrate to FG as is my favorite VTT.

Keep it up with the good work!

The Savage Worlds Adventurers Edition does something similar in the Combat Tracker for Soak Rolls, accepting Attack Rolls, Damage Rolls, Tests... If I understand the description.aybe you can leverage something from that ruleset?

Also look at savage worlds test and attack effects. They add entries to the CT that allow players to select options on mitigating damage and effects before they're applied.

Having played Daggerheart for several sessions using the Foundryborne mod for Foundry VTT... While I appreciate all of the effort they put into it, and it is functional, my god do I miss having an FGU ruleset!!!! I have grown so spoiled !!!! Every FGU programer deserves MANY thanks for the work they have done and continue to do!!!!!

How are you planning on handling distance by the way? As someone who both appreciates the simplicity of the melee/very close/close/far system, and also constantly has to double-check how that translates to feet for maps and 5e wired players, it would be interesting if maps had a toggle with distances so you could measure your movement in DH terms or something like that!

Can't wait. Our group has started a DH campaign using Demiplane and Roll20, but the group is much more familiar with FG. We're a few sessions in and it's tough for the players to learn a new ruleset and a new VTT at the same time. As the DM, I'm having to learn to run a campaign on a new VTT. I'm still trying to figure out ways to show my players how much fear I have. My son 3D printed some tokens I can clip on my shirt collar so everyone can see how much fear I have. DEVELOPERS: Please don't forget a way from the DM to track and show the players their fear.

Is there a projection on release date? Not to be overly antsy about it, I just noticed the store preview page appears to be gone and I'm wondering if this is an indication that we're getting close.

Not to badger either, my players and I are just extremely excited!

The product ID changed if you are still trying to use the old one. I thought we had a redirect working from the old to the new, but if that isn't doing it for you, the new product page is here:

As I shared in Discord recently, we're in final stages before submitting to Darrington Press for their final review. We don't yet know how long that process will take, but we expect to have some news to share at some point during the holidays. We'll get an update out when we can!

Quickly reading that page, it might be a tad out of date. It still mentions the requirement for a license.

Yeah, we'll have some pages that fell through the cracks with a change as big as this weekend's.

Thanks for the report - it's fixed now.

Yea, it's not as simple as a "find and replace" on a single file document. :)

Edit: Ooo, that's an idea. Offer a bounty for things that need corrected. Like a few Forge Gold, or something small and inconsequential. :)

Can't believe my luck that my favorite VTT is seemingly close to integrating the system I'm about to try out right as I bought the book. Good job to the FG team, the saved money on subscriptions on the decision to make FG F2P is going to go towards buying an FG copy of the module !

Why would Darrington Press not let it release?

LordEntrails
February 11th, 2026, 02:21
Why would Darrington Press not let it release?
Could be any of a thousand reasons. Total speculation but;
- They want to proof read all the books and haven't gotten around to it yet
- They are play testing the rules and haven't finished
- They have requested changes in the theming
- They want changes in the automation
- Darrington asked for a blue rock, but then they asked for a bigger blue rock, and then decided that they didn't want blue but instead green. And then someone thought that a small round rock would be better, but then...

In short, communication between groups is tough, and between companies is tougher, especially when it comes to software development. Then add in the issue that if the responsible person at Darrington is not familiar with FG, they have to learn that, or might push back about things that don't work well in FG. I could go on, but... it's all speculation, based upon experience dealing with custom software development.
