Do you guys have any extensions you recommend for running 5e? I am new to Fantasy Grounds and there are a lot of old posts for extensions to make life easier but as I said they are old.

TIA

If you are new to FGVTT then I would recommend that you not use extensions until you get familiar with what Fantasy Grounds does natively. Once you have played a few sessions you might then find that there are some pain points where maybe an extension might smooth that out. That’s when you can go looking for an extension.

The best place to find extensions is on the Forge; but as I say don’t go adding in extensions just because you can. Find out first what you need rather than burden yourself with trying to learn even more stuff than what comes natively.

None. Don't use any until you become proficient and find that there is something you really need. Then conside it.

Extensions equal risk and more work.

Thanks for the recommendations. It seemed like the various tutorials and other web information kind of recommend using them. The wait and see how the basic system works is a great answer and I appreciate you all for saying it.

Cheers

I think it will depend on what tutorials and information that you are looking at. If you use the Wiki then you won't see mention of extensions https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/996639165/Fantasy+Grounds+VTT+User+Manual; and this list of tutorials is also extension free. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?55797-How-do-I-in-Unity

Always start out with no extension except maybe a Theme to change the UI around. Add extension if or when you think you could use some function that is not included in the ruleset you are using.

I heard Foundry kind of requires extensions to make lots of basic things work, so maybe that's where the confusion is. I'm not trying to start VTT debates, though. I honestly haven't tried Foundry, so I can't confirm or deny.

Out of the box, FG has the most automation of any VTT. But even for Foundry, new users should start with zero extensions. You need to know what you are starting with before you start mixing and matching or you will never know what's broken or improved or by what.

This is the list of 5E exts I use for my games.

Remember also that you need to learn how to set up these exts. Feel free to hit me up in discord on any questions you have.

Unlike others on here, I feel like you can learn to play FG with exts and you don't have to start with the basics. Often times things are much harder with the basics than they are with having an automation ext.
Having said that many exts can add in extra issues like conflicts, so if you get an error you are stuck dealing with unloading them and trying to figure out how to play without exts for that session.

I would start off with exts that do things you like done the most and also keep it limited.
