If you create a new image, i.e. to let the players draw their own map, the blank image pen defaults to black. The transparent nature of the new image means you can't see the pen on a dark background like the desktop of the default theme or any dark theme.

Edit: I did this video from the DM side but the players don't have any ability to change the default pen color. I think the default pen color should be some variant of the inverse of the new image drawing background color.

The default pen color matches the player's color as set through options (Color: Active Character). Which defaults to black if it has not been set.

Also, rather than using a blank background, you can use one of the map backgrounds that are included with FG. Such as one of the grass, ground, sand, or stone backgrounds. Or even the "white one. Just do a search in assets for "background" or I also like some of the "fills"

Ah, good tip on the default color - I didn't think to change that. Too focused on testing in a new campaign with no extensions... :p
