Hi,
For new users of Fantasy Grounds Unity, participating in an online game, I need to know how to import characters. The specific problem is my computer isn't allowing imports, or even finding assets or images.

For Import Characters:

This is my problem:
64892
Note the missing Import button.

On a LAN campaign, I see this button:
64893
When clicked, it brings up the "MyCharacters" folder, and shows all the downloaded Traveller files.
Note: I don't have a license for Traveller, so I can't create a Traveller character. They don't import correctly into the local campaign.

Why is the button missing for the Online game? Other players with unlicensed copies are able to upload, but not me.

Please don't assume I know anything about Fantasy Grounds or the Mongoose Traveller modules. Things experienced users do from habit need to be explained in detail.

Thanks in advance.

A player who's joined a game can only import a character from one of their locally stored FG campaigns - this is probably what the players who say they can upload a PC are seeing. A player can't import from an XML file, only the GM can do that. So, what you're seeing is correct.

Checking with other players. The issue is that the GM's hard drive failed, and took out the campaign. So, we are trying to upload our characters. Others are able to do this, supposedly. There isn't any GM saved characters to be seen.

Thanks for detailing the underlying issue. Player data is cached locally on the computer that connected to the GM's instance of FG.

Are you using the same computer that you previously used to connect to the GM before they rebuilt their campaign?

I am using the same PC. Look above, and you can see in the LAN image the downloaded character files. The only reason I have them is I downloaded them from the GMs online game, prior to the crash.

If these are cached anywhere on my machine, I don't know where they are.

PS: the GM has sent the hard drive to a commercial recovery service, and most files were recovered. Don't know which ones. We'll find out this week, whether the character files all survived.

Like I said earlier - only the GM can import XML files. If you have a copy of the XML file you want to import, email that to the GM so they can import the XML into the campaign.
