View Full Version : Problem copying a record without it linking to the original

I'm getting back into Fantasy Grounds after 5 years or so and I'm a little rusty, so apologies if this is answered elsewhere. Could not find this in the wiki or videos, but if I'm wrong please let me know.

I'm getting ready to run Ghosts of Saltmarsh and I noticed that the Saltmarsh player's map seems to be just a link to the DM's map, so any changes I make to the "player's map" is also made to the DM's map. The map has far too much info to share with the players. I tried to create a new copy of the DM's map in which I could then edit the pin descriptions, but when I use the "drag the link out and then back into the images list" method, the resulting copy also seems to link back to the original, as any changes to the copy are again reflected in the original.

So, how do I create a copy of the record that I can edit without affecting the original? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome back!

The Saltmarsh-DM map is different from the Saltmarsh-Player map - i.e. the base image is different (the DM map has location number and is also lower resolution). The links to the story entries on two maps are the same, but they're hidden from the players. Hence if you make a copy of the player map you're keeping the same story links - which link to the same records on either map.

If you want to change the story data linked to one of the maps, you'll need to create new story entries and drag these to the map to create the links, then remove the old link from the player map. You can drag/drop the story entry in the Story campaign data list then edit that as needed before linking to the map.

Brilliant - thank you! I found the duplicate record button for the story entry, edited it, and attached it to the player's map as you mentioned.

Glad to be back!
