* Update 8 June 2026: Seeking one or two new players! *
FG License: Ultimate.
Game System: UPDATE: AD&D 2e. (Last Campaign, now completed, was 5e 2014).
FG Platform: Fantasy Grounds Unity.
Time Zone: AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) = GMT +10.
Day of week and time: Sundays 9am – 3pm (with half-time break of 15 mins or so). This time zone caters for players in the AEST time zone, but also US-based players (especially west coast) where it will be their Saturday night.
Planned start date: UPDATE: Campaign in progress (PCs currently around 4th level) and doing B10: Night’s Dark Terror, with a plan to go to the ‘Gunderholfen sandbox’ adventures (Pestilence at Halith Vorn etc by G.Hawkins) – all set in the Greyhawk Setting.
Planned Duration & Frequency: Once weekly 6-hour session. Being able to attend most sessions is expected, as “the real world” permits.
Term: Long term campaign where each “campaign” can last up to a couple of years say depending on group interest, and then we switch to another “campaign” but in the same setting and with the same timeline. This setting is Greyhawk (“Living Greyhawk” era, so circa 591-599 CY). I’ve been running this setting and timeline on a mostly weekly basis using Fantasy Grounds since 2016 (and I’ve been running d&d, typically Basic, 1e, and especially 2e, mostly in Greyhawk, since the mid-eighties).
UPDATE: Campaign currently in the Ratik region, CY 593.
Text or Voice: Voice only (over Discord).
Main Language used: English
Software used: UPDATE: FG Unity for gameplay, Discord for voice.
Will this be recorded and/or live streamed? No.
Roleplay & Combat mix: Depends on what the group does, but there will be a lot of both. More importantly perhaps, you can expect a game that is deep in Greyhawk lore, and what it means to be in that setting. Game mechanics are less important to me than who your actual characters are – their backstory, their motivations, their identity. This doesn’t mean you as a player need to know any of this lore, but I will be drawing on it in character generation and campaign story.
Number of Players in game & needed:: Currently have 5 players, looking to add 1 or 2 more. Current party classes: Barbarian, Ranger, Priest, Wizard and Thief. Recommended age is 30+ (our ages are from circa 40-60). Setting or rules experience always helps but is unnecessary. Attitude, willingness to engage with content and positive contribution to the group are the qualities that matter.
Character starting level & equipment: UPDATE: Characters would come in with circa 10,000 xp. All applicable Complete handbooks are being used (including ones not available through the FG Store), with more scheduled to be added. Further details on Greyhawk specific or similarly-themed material drawn from Greyhawk Player's Guide (2e), From the Ashes (2e), Scarlet Brotherhood (2e), Vikings Campaign Sourcebook (2e), Dragon Magazine, Oerth Journal, Canonfire, etc. Also included are things like the ‘Great Net Equipment List’ (thousands of mundane items), and I’m always adding more things (if it exists, I aim to include it eventually).
Character restrictions: My approach running AD&D 2e is to include all the "standard" and "Greyhawk" material I can, consistent with the Greyhawk Setting, and then just exclude things as becomes neccessary. Most of what gets included doesn't end up getting used anyway... Beyond this, the character needs to make sense in the context of the setting, where the party is in the setting, and the story. Alignments should also be non-evil. Anything else requires justification to make sense (and it probably won’t make sense, so therefore wouldn’t be allowed, e.g. tieflings, drow, dragonborn, tabaxi etc etc). Rest assured I’ll work with you to ensure things fit
Details of your scenario: I seek to create an engaging and fun experience for all, where the players feel as if they’re in a richly detailed, realistic and “gritty” world. Where there is an abundance of available lore on almost every place, and a history to go with it. A world full of peril and conflict, cast in shades of grey rather than black and white. A medieval-esque world where both great evil and good exists, including themes of racism, slavery etc consistent with the setting, and there is much for would-be-heroes to do… The fate of the world remains hanging in the balance.
I also thought it would help to include some comments from the current players, to give you a sense in their words, of the sort of game I run:
"if you have ever wished you could play in a Greyhawk campaign where the lore matters and your backstory is relevant then this is the place for you. We are not an RP heavy group, we won’t expect you to have special voices or use old english when playing your character, unless you want to. We like to crack jokes and have a good time with friends while also respecting the lore and continuity of the Greyhawk setting."
• Encourages learning of the lore of Greyhawk, even for new players.
• Provides for excellent roleplay opportunities, and allows for different levels / styles of RP.
• Doesn’t get upset or demonstrate lack of patience with players. (DM: don’t quite agree with this, but I try!)
• Punctual with sessions (online FGU session usually online at least 30 min before the start time).
• Assists with information that players may miss in the previous session recaps.
• May stray off into tangents once in a while, but that is everyone in the group as well and honestly is part of the fun.
• New player also needs to be able to tolerate our humor.
“You know, we’re about being heroic, not ho-hum nor mundane.. I’d say that's my main point.”
Recruitment process: If you’ve read this post and are interested to apply, send me a PM. Any questions welcome too.
I’ll endeavour to get back to each applicant, organise interviews over discord, and make a decision as to which players to accept as soon as practical. This may take a week or more, we’ll see. Once decisions are made, I’ll update this here as well.
Those accepted (and we’re really just seeking one extra player at this point), will then be invited to join the next session. After that first session, I will speak with the existing players as to their thoughts as to whether to “green light” them or not – this to happen before the next session. If given the go-ahead, the new player will be confirmed as part of the campaign going forward. Obviously in that first session there isn’t much merit in fleshing out your character’s backstory etc too much, but we’ll circle back to that once your spot is confirmed.
