FG License: Ultimate (player's only need the FG demo)
Game System: D&D 5e (2014) w/ light homebrewing
Time Zone: AEST (Melbourne, Australia)
Day of week and time: Flexible - Player(s) come together and check availability with the DM
If new game, planned start date: ASAP
Planned Duration & Frequency: Player frequency is when available. I am aiming for a frequency of 2 - 3 times a week. I'll post times I'm definitely available whenever possible, but most likely weekends and some weeknights.
Term: Hopefully no lulls but life may happen from time to time.
Text or Voice: Voice
Main Language used: English
Voice software used: Discord
Will this be recorded and/or live streamed? No
Roleplay & Combat mix: Dependent on the group. Probably more combat than roleplay, but with a strong focus on exploration and player goals (see below).
Number of Players in game & needed: 1 - 5 players per session (3 - 4 ideal)
Character starting level & equipment: Level 1.
Character restrictions: Character options from the PHB. I'm looking to start things off simple and then may expand options from there. Too many players with too many options may get messy FAST! That means:
Starting at Level 1.
All PHB species, excluding dragonborn, half-orc, and tiefling.
All PHB classes.
Standard class/background starting equipment.
Some backstory is always appreciated, but nothing detailed is required. Due to the nature of West Marches-type games it probably won't come in to play too often
Best to think up a second, back-up character in case of character death, your character is unable to make it back to town for some other reason, or you want to play at a different level when playing with others.
The characters are coming from a relatively low-magic setting. Well, at least at the beginning it will be ;)
Details of your scenario:
After a strange portal opened up behind a simple cattle station on the edge of the eastern frontier whispers began and rumours quickly spread. Said to lead into a wondrous new world and with reports of otherworldly folk appearing in the town that began to grow nearby, many's interest was piqued as they learnt that there was a new frontier.
Nobles tired of their stagnant lives, petty criminals trying to find a new lease on life, peasants looking for adventure, and merchants aiming to capitalise on the goods of this new land, in this time of peace people from across the realm found themselves making their way to Frontier Station in search of adventure, riches, and glory.
Come and explore a new and fantastical world! Seeking adventure and the unknown, your characters will be thrust into this new world with the opportunity to explore it and pave the way before anyone else.
What is a West Marches campaign?
There are 3 main principles when it comes to a West Marches game:
Scheduling: Players are in control. Come together with a party, talk to the DM about a time (or times) you're available to play, and go! There is no "regular" party.
The Setting: Each session would begin and end in the small settlement of Frontier Station, far away from the majority of civilisation. Their adventures take place in a world unknown, located without the mysterious portal on the edge of town.
Story: The game is very much a sandbox. Described as having "no overarching plot, just an overarching environment." Although, there may be quests posted on the job board in town from time to time.
Outside of the odd job, characters will explore this new world, discover weird dungeons and ruins, solve untold mysteries, find treasure, learn lore, and much, much more! Whatever YOU are interested in is the next plot hook. Report back to your fellow adventures with tales of your adventures and expeditions and rinse and repeat as you discover more within this world!
Conclusion
I'm hoping to start with a handful of players (ideally at least 6) to split into 2 groups and kick off first sessions with. From there, you'll be able to share details of your adventures, things you've seen that have piqued your interest that you want to explore more and set up unique parties from the player pool we have (with the intention of it growing from there!). I'm happy to kick things off sooner if we only have 3 - 5 people with the hope that more will join in so we have a nice pool of players for everybody to adventure with.
Note: Due to the nature of the game, even if you're in another time zone, it shouldn't be too much of a problem! As long as you and some other interested players get together with a time we can all play (probably weekends), it's on!
I am setting up a discord that will allow for players to connect and schedule games, and share tales of their characters adventures, rumours, and sights. Post below or send me a private message if you're interested! :D
