Does anyone know how to get at the notes from a character when you are not on the server? or where on the server they are stored?

They are held on the server in the campaign db.xml file, but not visible to the GM using the standard ruleset. To access them as a GM you will need to edit the db.xml file (take a backup first!) to find the notes contents.

You cannot access them offline as a player.

If you have an important note you want access to as GM you can also make a short cut to it. I use to have a group that kept their watch order in a note. Have the player pop the note and then drag the shaded square short cut on the note down to one of your hot key bars. You will later be able to pop the note by using the hotkey even if the player is not logged on. Once you have the note up you can then share it with the other players.
