Help Showing Background Equipment in Character Creation Wizard

Hi all,

I'm currently working on a custom module and have run into a snag with the Character Creation Wizard. Specifically, I can't seem to get the background equipment (e.g., the gear granted by the Acolyte or Soldier backgrounds) to display as selectable in the equipment section of the character creation wizard.

I've confirmed the background entries themselves are set up correctly and include the equipment, I've even managed to get it to work with items like common clothes and herbalism kits.

Is there a specific tag, format, or step I might be missing to get this working properly for other items?

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

What ruleset? Please post ruleset specific question in the ruleset sub-forum or let us know. All character wizards are ruleset specific.

I'm assuming 5e.

Make sure that you follow the exact wording in the equipment section on the main page and fill in the correct items in the Other page by dragging them from whatever source you are using (assuming the PHB).

A screenshot of your background showing both pages might help trace where your issue lies.

Thanks for the replies, Ruleset is 5E (2014).

I've attached some images with an example background. You can also see in the example that things like common clothes are working provided you don't name them out the same as their ID in the Item List section.

I have a feeling that the legacy background equipment is hard coded and only items that exist in the PHB will pop up in the equipment list (like common clothes), and, as you say, only if the exact same wording is used. The 2024 background equipment is more flexible since you can attach actual items to the equipment section in the 'Other' tab of the background.

Dang, the project is unfortunately tied to the 5E (2014), thats a shame. I suspected it would be something along those lines. Ah well.

Unless you guys can advise another work around, my current plan is to make a parcel for each background, link that into the background description to allow GM/Players to just drag and drop after the creation wizard.

Yes, that's how I would do it and have done in the past.
