View Full Version : BECMI using OSE

I have been checking out OSE to run BECMI, as defined in the Rules Cyclopedia. Is there any way to turn off healing on rest? There are no natural healing rules in BECMI but apparently there is a Sage Advice entry on the subject indicating that for the first week, characters will receive 1 hp per full day of rest. I would say a rest during an adventure is unlikely to be a full day so there should be no healing from the rest option provided in FGU. When I tested it, my character received 2 hp back from a rest.

There is an Old School Essentials Ruleset that is likely more compatible with BECMI. The ruleset is free and can be found at the Forge.

That's what I'm using

Sorry my mistake. There's an OSE forum on these forums. It's here - https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?130-Old-School-Essentials
Maybe you'll get an answer there.

Paul I found this on Dragonsfoot. RC is silent on what to do if your not using the healing skill but the basic volume that came out with RC specified 1d3.

I am up for other interpretations.

I think I will leave it as is but I am open to doing some coding if you have any ideas?

What is it set to currently?

I've seen another reference today. Module B2 says 1d3 for 24 hours rest, while Sage Advice says 1 point for the first week, increasing thereafter. I guess the best solution would be to make it configurable, and second best to turn it off altogether, leaving players to roll it themselves. The problem with having too high a value is that it may not be possible to undo it. If the healing heals to maximum, you never know what it was on before.

You can always not use the rest function on the CT right? It is set to 1d3 healing. The only other thing it does is reset spells but players can do thay manually. This is based on OSE which is based on BX.

Yes, it's not a show stopper.

Yeah but I think this is both following OSE and Basic rules put out by Moldvay. People generally believe this was an omission from RC. RC is just BECMI all in one book basically. I always gave them 1d3 plus if they had a healing skill an additional 1d3.

Ok I added this option in the options menu. The options are

OSE/BX (Moldvay) - 1d3
Sage Advice - 1 hp / day
Benevolent DM(RC/BECMI) - 0 HP healing per day

Resting wills till reset all spell slots
