View Full Version : Shift-Arrow in Book swaps pages

Given a book with many pages in a subchapter, I find they're out of order, and I want to fix that. Starting with this sequence,
64089
I want to move 0.7.51 up 5 lines.
I read that shift-up inside an advanced story page would move a section up 5 sections. I did not find anything that said it would work like that with pages in a book, but crossing my fingers that it would, I tried. The result is:
64090
To me that looks good.
I then want to move 0.7.38 up five lines from this:
64091
I do the same shift-up, and the result is:
64092
It looks like 0.7.38 and 0.7.51 swapped places. That's not the desired nor expected behavior.
I suspect this is a bug in the movement of story pages within a book. It might be this happens only for pages that have already been moved? It didn't happen in my first example, but did in the second example, putting the first page moved back down (maybe to where it was earlier?).

Related to that issue, ctrl-arrow moves a section inside a story page to top or bottom.
Starting with this sequence:
64093
I tried to use ctrl-up to move 0.7.38 to the top of the subchapter. The result is:
64094
Yes, 0.7.38 is now at the top. But 0.7.01 move moved down to the middle of the list, 0.7.06 got moved, and 0.7.17 got moved.
I cannot figure out what the pattern is. But moving a page like this should not result in other pages getting jumbled up out of order.

Interesting, I never knew you were supposed to be able to move pages around with shift and ctrl. I always just used the little up and down arrows to move them one at a time.

I don't know that you're supposed to be able to do that -- I just crossed my fingers and tried it. At first it seemed to work, but then it started messing up. So I figured I'd report it.
If it's intended to work, it should be fixed.
If it's not intended to work, perhaps the shift/ctrl options should be disabled until they can be made to work?

It is now shown (in Test, Live soon) in the UI when you mouseover the move icons, what various combo's do when click with Ctrl etc. sometimes it doesn't work perfectly but its a start, because manually moving a new page up 20 pages was tedious and my eyes are getting worse and worse...

This is working for me although I don't have a big sample to test with but when I SHIFT+click on Six it moves up 5 and the order moves down one. I can do this with any page and it moves it keeping the order.
Now having said that this was in the original design when it came out in test but I believe it was removed from the index (and left only in the pages) because there were issues with the index. It looks, however, like only the tooltip was removed and not the functionality. So it may still have issues.

Just tested it in Live - it's actually a PITA - you move the item and it changes order of other pages....

Do you have a test campaign I can use to test this? I can't reproduce the issue with test records. In my local tests, it moves up or down correctly by 1, 5, or to top and bottom.
Also, are you running any extensions currently?

Note, the OP said the first line worked correctly, it was the second operation that had issues.

I created a new test campaign, with zero extensions, and was able to reproduce the issue.
Campaign is attached.
Inside that zip are 1) mod exported from the campaign, and 2) campaign folder. Both should be able to reproduce the problem.
I recorded the steps I used to reproduce the issue. Recording is too large to attach, so it's stored online at https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvLy7bnHvzD_iqJt1NF6LPqyxpFOHg?e=ghEuRU

OK I think I'm able to reproduce this after a bit of playing around. I used Curse of Strahd module since I happened to have this open. So the steps to reproduce are.
1. Unlock the index and scroll down to Areas of Barovia chapter
2. SHIFT+Click on the up arrow next to K. Castle ravenloft; it correctly moves up 5
3. Now SHIFT+Click on J. Gates of Ravenloft; this swaps the K with J instead of moving J up by 5
So it appears that the issue is that if you select the page which was immediately above the one that was moved first (and therefore has moved into the place that the one you moved first was originally in) then they swap places rather than moving. It seems that as long as you don't do that everything works as expected.

I can reproduce that as well now. Thanks for the assist.

Okay, I have a fix for this submitted and it should release soon. I will post again once it is in the LIVE branch.
