I'm trying to level up the PC's before tonight's game and when I try and do so I get the following error: "Unable to import. Unable to open Class record(s) not loaded."

I've never encountered this before when leveling PC's. All my modules are loaded, I exited and re-ran updates.

Anyone know what is causing this?

It will depend on a number of things, like what book was used to originally create the character (that is where did the class come from); how long ago the character was created (or was last leveled up). Note also that if the players version of a module was used originally or if the DM version was used originally are two different things. So double check which books were used. Also make sure that you are opening the right books (don't mix up 2014 and 2024 versions).

If you export the character xml and post it here we might be able to point you in the right direction if you can't figure it out.

I have a feeling I know what happened. I'm running a one shot (well several sessions) adventure so I made the character in D&D beyond and then used the unofficial exporter / importer to bring them into FG. I wanted my players to have access to pdf character sheets to get to know their characters first.

I'll attach one of the characters xml exported out of FG anyway so you can take a look but I leveled them up manually for tonight's session.

Indeed. The links in the xml file are what is called an anonymous link which theoretically will find the first instance of the class/background/species etc from whatever books are open. However such links are no longer used and haven't been for a couple of years now. So as it stands the links aren't pointing to any particular book; hence the reason FGVTT is having a problem finding the source.
