I'm having a technical issue where I can't seem to get the ammunition tracker to show for the majority of my PC's. We are just beginning the Vecna one-shot with self-made characters and have just had one session where my players made their characters using Drag+Drop. After our session, I as the DM am looking over their sheets and noticed that only one of my PC's (A Lvl 3 Elf Sorceror) has a spear which in the Actions tab of their character sheet is properly shown as being able to be thrown AND it shows "Ammo 1 [ ]" as I would expect. However, my other characters who also have ranged weapons (Fighter with a Longbow, and a Barbarian with Handaxes and Light Crossbow and a Spear) both do not have the ammo being tracked in the Actions tab as described above. Their weapons are marked as equipped and also are showing as either a thrown or ranged weapon attack, but none have ammo being tracked. Even the barbarian which has a spear (like the elf) doesn't show it as having Ammo. I've attached a screenshot (https://imgur.com/a/0tehaWk) so you can see what I mean if it didn't make sense.

All the weapons/ammunition in their inventory is being added from the item list as a 2024 PHB asset. I've tried deleting and readding the weapons and arrows/bolts with no luck. I've tried single and stacks of arrows/bolts, no luck. I've tried adding other thrown or ranged type weapons with no luck. Even when I add a different ranged weapon to the Elf's inventory, it does not have the Ammo shown either. Only for that single spear which the elf already has is ammo being shown.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Unlock the character sheet.

When you first add an ammo weapon to the inventory the ammo qty is set to zero. When the qty is set to zero, the box is hidden.

The solution is to unlock the sheet, add ammo and then you can lock it and adjust the qty later.

Have you added ammo to their inventory?

This was already solved by the above. It was an issue with having the character sheets locked.

Yes, it's an easy work-around. I ran into this in our game this weekend as well. Character bought a crossbow. Added to inventory. Equipped. Crossbow appeared on the Actions tab, but not the Ammo box. Unlocked the record and the ammo box appeared. Added in the purchased ammo.

But shouldn't the ammo box appear automatically when the ammo-requiring weapon is added to the actions tab, whether or not the record is locked? Is this a bug, or should I submit a feature request?

Lord Entrails posted, "When you first add an ammo weapon to the inventory the ammo qty is set to zero. When the qty is set to zero, the box is hidden." But why is the box hidden? If a character has run out of ammo, or has never bought ammo, there should be an indicator by the weapon indicating "you ain't got no ammo -- you're gonna have to hit him with the butt end of that crossbow".

It's so that "ranged" weapons don't always take up the vertical space in the Weapons section, if people aren't tracking ammo.

To support the current behavior, our table never tracks regular ammo after about 3rd level.
