View Full Version : Subclass Feature - Not Automating

I am trying to add a subclass feature that adds a proficiency/skill at third level with the selection of the subclass. While it adds the feature, it doesn't automatically add the skill to the character sheet. I remember being able to do this in 2014, but can't seem to get it to work in 2024/5. Maybe my wording is wrong? Here is the syntax of the feature:

Elven Stealth
Level: 3

You gain Proficiency in the Stealth skill. If you are already Proficient in the Stealth skill, you gain Expertise. Furthermore, starting at 7th level, you may use your ranged attack and not break Stealth.

What I'm looking for is when the character reached level 3, it automatically adds the stealth skill or, if the character already has it, to award expertise. I know it can just be added manually, but would prefer it to auto populate.

Thank you

Additionally, is it possible to add a Feat as a subclass feature and have it automate the Feat text? So if the feat adds +1 to dex, it's automated by adding the feature.

So if I want a class feature to be the Feat Shapshooter, which adds +1 to dex, is there a way to make so it automate that attribute score increase or do I just have to drag the feat manually?

Subclass Feature
There is not a wording in either 2014/2024 that will do exactly what that feature does (i.e. grant proficiency; and grant expertise if already proficient).
I've added similar support for a single skill to 2024 processing (as was in 2014) in the beta Test channel for release next month. None of the standard features used wording like that.
You'll still have to manually handle the expertise if already proficient.

Feat
Only backgrounds grant feats in 2024 processing. There's nothing set up to grant feats through other means.

I'm not sure if you are trying to make a module or if you are just looking to get automation, but there are 2 exts that will do this for 5E. Advanced Effects ext, and Equipped Effects ext.

Either one works really well for this.

Thanks. I have both of those extensions and they are fantastic.

I'm working on a homebrewed compendium of classes/subclasses that will eventually be an ext I use in my own campaigns. At some point, I'd like to release a couple of the classes/subclasses on the forge and I'd like to have everything as automated as possible so the end user doesn't have to worry about anything.

I made a conscious design decision to do some things differently than 2014/2024 because I was looking for specific outcomes.

Yeah, I thought I'd had automated this in a class entry in 2014, but it was race/species where I was able to automate this (Just adding proficiency in a single skill, not adding double proficiency/expertise). I just assumed because there were proficiencies (Armor, Weapon Groups, Tools, and multi-select proficiencies) that were added by class that it would carry over to that entry as well.

I see now proficiency selection for class entries is in the Other tab, instead of the features tab. As this is not something any other user would probably use, I'll just put a note on my feature entry that says this feature has to be added manually.

Thanks for your time and answer.
