Hello,

First, I have a Unit license of FG. I own and run 2014 and 2024 rules, with other rules sets.

Second, I host as a DM 5e DnD games for my close friends. I also play in games offered by others via FG. Thus, I have a lot of 5e characters at all levels and mixes.

Third, my problem is that when I try to select or import a character that I have used in some game by another DM or a character I created in my system, I get a huge list of characters, most are outdated. I want to clean up that list of outdated characters and be able to use the same character in different games by others. Also, I noticed that when in the import window, I see the characters my friends have built in my games with them. I also see no-name characters, oddly!

You all are totally lost and confused? Well, so am I! I am hoping for a simple solution. The videos I have found are no longer current.

So how do I manage or get rid of outdated characters. I understand that these may be *.xml files in the servers (aka, HD of others), correct?

Cheers,

For the Import Character auto-populated list; this comes from the cache subfolder under the FG Data Folder. (Available via button in upper left of FG launch window)

You can remove any data from a given campaign by deleting the campaign folder under the cache folder. I recommend creating a backup folder while you're working on this, and just move those folders out of the cache into your temp folder to clean up.

So, by logging into those campaigns I DM'ed and deleting my characters will "NOT' delete them from the cache and from the character import?

I have to delete the entire campaign? :square:

Not the campaign itself, just the cache for that campaign.

The cache will be rebuilt if you ever join that campaign again, but as MW says, best to keep a copy of the cached campaigns just in case.

The cache is located at %FG Campaign Data%\Cache\<Campaign name>, while your campaigns are located at %FG Campaign Data%\Campaigns.
