View Full Version : Cant Edit Character Sheets

Hi, I dont know if this is a bug or a deliberate change.

I have a campaign I use to store all my characters. Previous to about a week ago, I could load up a character, edit skills, stats, inventory, etc to get it ready for a new game for lvl 1's or updates for leveling up if I want to do it between sessions.

Now when I access the sheet, I can change out spells but that is it. Cant even directly add gold to the sheet without doing a parcel and distributing it.

Everything able to be affected/edited though GM tools like the combat tracker work fine. Just nothing though the character sheet itsself.

Thank you for any information,

Character sheets now have a lock, top right. Click the unlock button and then you can edit.

This new "feature" is pretty annoying. Is there any way to go back tot he previous UI paradigm?

I'm sure you could write an extension to change the behavior.

Its a feature for some tables. Personally I prefer trust at tables so locking would not be something I would want either, but it is definitely a feature. embrace change :) and then unlock it.

Once I know it is there I am fine with it.

I kinda looked for a button when the behavior started, obviously failed my perception/notice roll.

The only constant is ∆.

Its great, awesome actually, how often the application is updated. I support the enhancements to the UI and functionality. It would be nice to have an in product button or something to get to the patch notes or perhaps get a pop-up with important new info. Of course that would take some amount of time away from other work so I dont know it is worth it to Smiteworks.

There is, it's on the FG Launch Screen.
The Release Notes are not as detailed as I would like, but they do at least give you an idea of what has changed.

The thing is that when the character is unclocked, so that you can edit your inventory for example, the square besides each spell (that you can double click and see the spell description) vanishes!

I am once again disappointed....without cause. Who asked for this change? Was this at the top of the "wish list"? Who thought it was a good idea? Can we get some kind of vote to keep/undo? This is just worse than what we used to have and its a pain that one must unlock the sheet to do basically anything. As to the rest of you FGU users, please voice your opinions honestly. My whole group thinks this is a negative change that no one asked for. It feels like once the devs make a change, no matter the consensus, it's now etched in stone and we must live with it.

The edit button prior was a good toggle useful for large deletions, but the inventory sheet as an example was still editable with quantities and descriptions. Now it's locked. You can't scroll counts. I used to be able to scroll quantities up and down with a mouse wheel. You can't leave the sheet unlocked either, cause every tab shows trashcans everywhere and you actions sheet will not work. Insanity.

I could see putting something in the options menu - so those that do and those that dont can both be happy.

Once I got used to it, which has taken less than a day, well I like it just fine. Each to our own just the same.

I don't think it was in the wishlist, but I remember seeing a good amount of instances in the forums of people asking for the ability to lock a character sheet (in fact this https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?69866-5E-Trust-Issues-Lock-Character-Sheets-Extension&highlight=trust+issue was a very popular 5E extension specifically because FGU did not support this). I have made use of Trust Issues myself, in certain groups with players who, willingly or accidentally, mess up their character sheet by clicking around and dragging things.

What I don't like of the particular current implementation of FGU is that it doesn't actually lock the character sheet: it locks certain things and it changes visualization mode for the Actions tab.
This is
1- unintuitive
2- counterproductive
3- breaks the single responsibility pattern
4- in many situations forces users to constantly flick that "lock" button on and off, for example to check if a caster has in the inventory the right material component for a spell that requires a specific expensive material component not replaceable with a spell focus and pass it around if another character has it instead.

I like the feature of locking the character sheet; I'd prefer if the feature of switching view mode in the Actions tab was a separate button, as it should be since it has nothing to do with locking the editability of the character sheet.

Years asking for 3.5 support, while they're officially partnered with WotC, and THIS is top of the prio list?

WotC won't give them permission to release 3.5 content. Or 3E for that matter. Even 1E & 2E have restrictions on what can be done. Rather than complain here, why don't you let WotC know how you feel?

I have, that's the awesome part about the internet, leaving comments is not reduced to a single place or board. Crazy times we live in right?

Then if you knowingly post useless comments all you are doing is trying to make yourself feel better while wasting other's time and bringing negativity to our community. Neither of which is appreciated.

More like: years asking for aura support--ever since classic, and this is the top of the priority list.
