View Full Version : FGU Character sheet not showing buttons, locked in edit mode

So my problem (at least) is that the "Edit" buttons aren't showing at the bottom of 5e (2014) character sheet tabs anymore, nor is the "Mode" button at the bottom of the Actions tab, and all data rows on the character sheet (whichever tab) have the delete icon displayed (as if you had clicked the Edit button at the bottom). I'm sure there'll be other things but this is just what I've noticed after I was playing around with different extensions and trying to figure what combination best worked etc.

Crucially, and I think this is the issue and not FGU, during this process I also used CCleaner software to do an automatic update of my drivers and software on my laptop. Unfortunately I didn't do a system backup for my laptop before doing this (I have a system registry backup though, but figured that wasn't going to help?)

I went down a lot of rabbit holes thinking the issue was with FGU and/or the extensions and/or themes, but I still get the same problem even after a full uninstall, including manually removing registry entries as per the manual uninstall guidelines, reboot and reinstall into a different location, then starting a new 5e campaign with no extensions, no theme and just the PhB and DMG modules loaded. (Also did all the support steps prior to that: forced app update, clearing cache and vault, etc).

I also re-updated C++ to the latest version for Windows 10 (what I'm using), and checked firewalls, antivirus, exception rules, folder permissions. I'm wondering what else I can try short of the "full nuclear" option - that is a full reformat of my laptop and reinstalling everything again... (Interestingly perhaps, FG Classic seems unaffected).

Any advice for something I haven't tried yet? I'll keep investigating in the meantime (after sleep that is, having wrestled with this for many hours). Here's hoping I get it sorted in the next couple of days or so my players don't notice how much I screwed up haha.

I think the first thing is to take a step away from trying to investigate this as a Windows issue and get a baseline test in FG.

1) Create a new campaign with zero extensions and without a theme.
2) Test to see if you can recreate the issues you're seeing.
3) If you are seeing the issues, please take some screenshots and attach them to this thread with relevant details/steps of how to recreate. Also compile your FG logs after creating the issues and attach the resulting ZIP file here.
4) If you don't see the issues in a brand new campaign with no extensions/themes enabled, then it will be a case of trying to track down which extensions might be causing the issue/s.

You need to unlock the character sheet (lock icon at the top of the sheet) in order to see edit mode now. See the patch notes.

Just pushed update to lock PC sheets when session started; so that players will see the typical controls they are used to seeing on the Actions tab. To edit fields or groups on the Actions tab, use the unlock button at the top of the PC sheet.

Have GM run a new Check for Updates to get the latest changes.

Thanks all - I'm glad that there was a simple explanation for the "issues" I thought I had. And it's simply that FGU behaviour has changed.

I can see that now you only see the Mode button on the actions tab when the character sheet is locked (and the add weapon/add powers buttons when it is unlocked), and that you only see the delete buttons on line items on various tabs when the character sheet is unlocked. I guess it was a case of bad timing for me since I was fiddling with other things both in FGU with extensions etc, and outside with software/driver updates at the same time that caused me to think I'd broken something, but all good now I think.

So option #b - deliberate change.

Thanks, found the lock.

Amazing what you cant see if you dont look.
