So I attempted to export a campaign into a module that I then use in another campaign and during the process it crashed. I assume it happened because I added two really large maps during the last couple of weeks of work.

When I attempted to restart FG from Steam it actually acted as if the client was not installed and asked me repeatedly where to install the client. I bypassed this by going to the FG folder itself and updating it and starting it there.

When I tried to reopen the campaign it asked me if I wanted to use the 2024 ruleset by default giving me the impression that the client now thought I was running this campaign for the very first time. It also was completely empty. It had no story, images, encounters or parcels. If I go into the campaign folder in explorer I can see all the images there but they do not show up and the story which contained a full 4 chapters is completely missing along with any hint of the folders. Basically there is no hint that anything was ever made.

Every other campaign I loaded also asked me if I wanted to use the 2024 ruleset but it has all the content I made in there.

My backup works but it is missing at least 20+ hours worth of work. Not sure how to proceed. Do I just accept the lost work and redo the 20+ hours or is there something in the campaign I could look at to see if it would start reading the content? It’s like the export function broke the campaign when it crashed FG.

The client makes a backup every time it is opened the first time each day; so unless you didn't close FG at all during that whole time, your backup should contain more data.
Make sure you are using the session file with the most recent date.

Ok so I managed to rename a previous db into db.xml and restore the campaign. It looks as if the campaign made an empty db.xml when FG crashed. Thank you.

Quick question. Can a export fail/crash due to a large map file resolution/size or could too many tokens in the campaign folder cause it? I think I may need to optimize the campaign folder a bit.

Maybe... are your images terabytes in size? You will hit practical performance and sharing issues long before you get images large enough to cause a crash. Remember, just because you can open and see the image doesn't mean it will be enjoyable for your players to use.

Most likely you have extensions that are causing the crash.

Thank you for the response.

Biggest map size was 5.51 MB and 10800 x 8116 69dpi.

Token folder inside of campaign is 3,851 files 960 MB. Tokens are between 300x300 to 500x500. I just kept adding to it over the years.

I did have some extensions working at the time of the crash but they were working without issue until I attempted an export. I would like to make sure I am not overdoing it with map sizes and token inventory inside of campaign folder.

I do not mind pruning things. I just have not had to think about it until now because I never had an issue in the past.

I would ensure that any maps/images over 8Kx8K are reduced in size to be under that limit.
