View Full Version : Discord Flickering Video When Viewing Images

I am having a problem with discord when viewing maps or images in the live build of Fantasy Grounds. When a map or image is open, regardless of map size of features, my outgoing video begins to occasionally flash green or glitch accompanied by an audio crackling. This seems to specifically happen in discord as my webcam software displays fine. Minimizing or closing maps makes the video return to normal immediately even if fantasy grounds is still running.

So far I have tried:
Reinstalling webcam drivers
Trying a different webcam
Reinstalling graphics drivers
Reinstalling Fantasy Grounds
Reinstalling Discord
Changing Discord Setting
Disabling all extensions
Starting a fresh campaign
Disabling all other software that may be interfering with either program

Changing to the Prev build channel is the only thing that has resolved this issue. Wondering if there is anything else I can try or if devs are aware of this problem for future updates.

Do you have a modern computer with a graphics card or integrated video driver?

Gotcha, I would consider posting your logs here and also keep in mind that Discord and Fantasy Grounds might be competiting for resources. I hope the images and maps optimization and bugs can be solved. What previous build did you go back to?

I would explore the vsync option. Sounds like a refresh rate conflict.

Prev build channel changes to version 4.5.10 and seems to work completely without issue.

Tried all vsync options within fantasy grounds with no luck. Also tried disabling vsync and restoring default displays settings.

Also tried setting fps to 60 and trying different monitor resolutions and settings with no change unfortunately.

Both the previous and current builds of Fantasy Grounds do periodic, asynchronous reads of data from GPU when images are open. If this is conflicting with Discord, it would be more visible in 4.6.4, as it does more GPU readbacks. If the webcam is working outside of Discord while Fantasy Grounds is running with images open, it suggests the bug is with Discord's video streaming.

Hello. Sorry to perhaps hijack this thread, but I wanted to report that I'm having similar issues with the camera/discord.

Again, this seems to occur only when loading images, and nothing else. Not all images do this even, but the majority do, particularly the more detailed ones. Rather than flickering though, my camera just stutters and freezes briefly and often when the image is open. As soon as I close it, it returns to normal.

Testing it outside of discord, it seems to be happening within the default camera app also in which again, it freezes constantly. I too am running Windows 10, and have a 3080 GPU. I've got network speeds of 500/75 and I'm plugged in via ethernet. The camera drivers are fully up-to-date too and I've had no issues with the camera.

I can't go back to version 4.5.10 to test this sadly either.

Apologies if this goes against any forum rules. If so, I'll make sure to follow correct procedure going forward. Thanks!

How often is it happening?

I believe this might be related to saving FG does every so often.

Flickering/stuttering is somewhat variable but usually fairly frequently. I'll see a flicker every 10s or shorter intervals.

Try disabling hardware acceleration in the advanced settings in Discord.

SOLUTION FOUND!

I updated my motherboard BIOS and drivers (Chipset, Audio, and LAN drivers) and it seems to have resolved this issue. I imagine just updating the drivers would be sufficient, but I did both at the same time before testing results.

Often I have found you are right, just updating the motherboard chipset drivers tends to fix odd problems. However, every once and a while they mess up a BIOS update that really needs a patch. Given the risk of BIOS updates, I'd always suggest you try chipset updates first.

Had a similar issue with discord sound and FGU, where audio would pop and eventually die out when an image was open in FGU and I was in voice chat in discord. Tried everything, updating drivers reinstalling apps, windows update, prioritizing audio etc. The only fix was updating bios. This was on an ASUS mobo.
