Is double clicking to highlight a string of text supposed to be able to work in fields like an the body of an Action in an NPC statblock? It looks like it does highlight a string for a moment, then unselects it immediately.

As far as I know, FG only highlights strings that are actionable and only while hovering so that you can click them to activate them (attacks, damage, etc). Only strings that fit specific language the parser recognizes is actionable.

Sorry... I don't think I was clear... I mean only to highlight/select text.

Open up the Notes tab of an NPC or a Story record (or a number of other things) and double click on any word. The text becomes highlighted/selected (for copying/cutting, etc.)

This does not happen in other fields like NPC actions.

At first I didn't think it would be possible, as you can't click-drag to highlight text in these fields, but when double clicking, it does highlight the text for a brief moment so I'm wondering if maybe there is a possibility that this is intended to work here but isn't working.

The answer is no. The click action is tied to the automation.

I use click-drag to select the entire text and not just the action string. Never been able to use the double-click select like you are looking for. Or us the 5E NPC Maker extension to copy traits from NPCs to make new ones.

Click-drag also does not work in these fields (never did and I assume it's tied to automation).

I just use a lot of CTRL-SHIFT-Arrows to highlight text quickly without picking up the automation, but just based on the graphical feedback of double-clicking, I thought it was worth asking.

Thanks all!

The NPC Action fields override the default behavior in order to use the selection region to show actionable rolls/conditions.

If you place the cursor in the field with the mouse, then move the mouse off the field, you can use the keyboard to select and copy sections of text using Shift key and arrows/home/end.

Yup. Makes sense. It was just that brief visual flash when double-clicking in a field like this that made me wonder if it was supposed to be possible.

Thank you.
