View Full Version : Issue - Map crash in 2D mode

Hello,

We are a group of players, and since the end of December, we have been facing some really disruptive bugs.

The issue is that sometimes when we place our tokens on the 2D maps, the maps crash, and we can no longer display them. However, if we switch to 3D mode, there is no issue.
We thought we had resolved the problem by deleting and recreating the tokens in the combat tracker, which temporarily stopped the maps from crashing... for a brief moment.
But sometimes, when the values of the tokens are modified in the combat tracker, it also causes the map to crash. Then, when we place the tokens back on the map, it crashes again.
We’ve tried disabling all lighting and fog of war settings, but that doesn’t seem to have any impact on the issue.
We've tried new compaigns and deleting/uploading the map again but it does not fix the issue.

The problem clearly seems to be related to the combat tracker, but we’re out of ideas and don't quite understand the connection between 2D/3D and the combat tracker

A few things;
- Please Compile Logs after your next crash and attach here (or you can do this now if you have not restarted FG since the last crash). How to Compile Logs - Fantasy Grounds Customer Portal - Fantasy Grounds (https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1242136781/How+to+Compile+Logs)
- What ruleset are you using?
- What extensions has the GM loaded? Does it repeat in a new campaign with no extensions enabled?
- Does this happen on any map? What file size and file type are these image(s)?
- If it is repeatable, can you upload a copy of the campaign and detailed steps to reproduce?

Also, please describe exactly what happens when "the map crashes"?

Hello,

First of all, sorry for the late answer, our GM was sick!
We had an update today that seems to fix the problem. We are testing it, and we'll see this weekend if everything works as it should.

To answer the previous question:

Logs: Sorry about this one. Since our GM couldn't do anything while he was sick, we couldn't get the logs as it hasn’t crashed since the update!
Ruleset: We are playing DnD 3.5, though we play our own tabletop game with its rules. Our GM said that whatever the ruleset, it didn’t matter.
Extensions: There's only one extension, and it’s about height control (alt + scroll) to show our height. He tested without extensions, and the issue still remained.
Map: We are using mostly 8 to 10 MB maps (compilation of printed hand-drawn maps) in .png. However, the problem still occurred with files that were about 1 MB.

Map crash details:
When we are playing, the GM displays a "Map," which is just a picture we can take from the "Images" repository in the campaign folder inside the VTT. The map is shown in a window like this:
63284

Instead of having a view of the map like the attached picture, it was all black with a little transparency. It was impossible to see anything, and it seemed like the window itself bugged. However, if we used the 3D mode, it worked fine:
63285

I’m looking for what changed in the last update; any link would be appreciated.
We’ll get back to you if any issues appear again. We have a game session next Monday night, so we’ll see then if everything works properly. :)

There was a bug when a token had a size or reach of zero set in the combat tracker that would prevent the map from drawing in the 2D view. Based on the description of your issue, it sounds like this was the most likely cause. This bug has been fixed.
