View Full Version : Crash when making a square fill

When I attempt to make a plain square fill on the attached image FG crashes. Just started happening and was able to make fill squares just a few minutes prior the crash. The size of the fill squares were only a few pixels, a very small portion of a 260x260 hex (as set in the FG grid size).

Image was originally created in a Shadowdark Ruleset campaign. Exported the image into a module. Created a new Core RPG campaign and opened the mod. Same result in both the Shadowdark and Core RPG rulesets.

No extensions or themes.

Update

The crash only happens if the area chosen is very small. In the example above, maybe an area of 1/4 of a hex or smaller.

Was attempting to make areas to cover up where hex tiles or river stamps had to overlap, so fine detail is needed to cover up.

Thanks for providing the data. The minimum size for objects is 0.1 of a grid unit. I've added checks to verify that paths are larger than this and it will prevent the crash, although it will also not draw the shape. This should be fixed in the next Release update.

Your module will also be valuable for increasing performance when that number of layers. Thanks again.

I was able to make some small points before it started crashing, and if the area was too small it would just not make the square. It suddenly started crashing a few minutes later when I tried the same thing on another part of the map.

I also tried on a new map with only a couple of layers, it also caused a crash. I have since stopped using the Layer Tile option and just making regular picture layers for each "layer type" and placing the specific hexes using the tile option in the Picture menu. For some reason that does not use as much memory (or something) compared to placing individual tile layers. Placing tiles on the layer menu has better control over individual tiles, so there is a loss, but its better than FG getting all slow after placing a few dozen layer tiles, lol.

Regarding your first comment, the fix hasn't been pushed yet, so the issue will still remain.

I'm not sure I follow the second comment.

Sorry, I tend to go off on tangents. I was basically wondering why placing an image by means of the Layer tile-stamp placement option seems to make the program lag after placing a dozen or so "stamps" compared to using the tile stamp option under the Images menu in the Image Editor. When placed through the Image menu, you can place hundreds of the same image with no lag.

Where I'm getting confused is with the "Images menu in the Image Editor." I'm not sure what you mean by that.

The menu options to create lines, squares, circles and stamps when editing an image.

We just pushed a new update that should fix this issue. Please run a new Check for Updates, and let us know if still seeing an issue.
