View Full Version : Missing Dice Tower and Border Elements in Windows and Empty Table Entries

Greetings FG Team,

Ruleset: PFRPG (Pathfinder 1E) Ruleset ~Fantasy Grounds Bugs.jpg~
Extensions/Themes: Theme: Legacy - Wood and Golarion Languages and Fonts FGU extension
Modules Loaded: Calendars, PFRPG - Spellbook, PFRPG Bestiary, Pathfinder Advanced Race Guide, Pathfinder Critical and Fumble Rules, Pathfinder RPG - Advanced Class Guide, Pathfinder RPG - Advanced Player's Guide, Pathfinder RPG - Ultimate Magic, Pathfinder RPG - Ultimate Wilderness, Pathfinder Ultimate Combat, Pathfinder Ultimate Equipment, Pathfinder Ultimate Intrigue
Operating System: Windows 10 Home Build 19045.5131

I have a number of issues that have cropped up since no earlier than the November 12 update. I know that I wasn't having any of these issues before that. I remember there being a data and network version change around this time.

These issues that I have are listed as follows:

Missing dice tower - The toggle to turn on the dice tower can be flipped, but no dice tower appears. Not sure if the tower is active or deactivated, though. ~Fantasy Grounds Bugs.jpg~
Missing table borders in various windows (player notes, classes) - The table functions normally as if the cells are really there, but there are no boundaries shown. ~Fantasy Grounds Bugs.jpg~
Missing dialogue borders in Player Notes - The dialogue functions normally, appearing in chat when clicked, but there are no boundaries shown. ~Fantasy Grounds Bugs.jpg~
Expanding list of <New Table> listings in my Tables folder with blank entries. When I first discovered it, there was a little over 1 page of empty entries, now the list has reached over 2 pages and may be growing. These tables have shown up WITHOUT clicking on the Add Item button in the Tables folder. ~Expanding Table Entries.jpg~

RECREATION OF ISSUES:

Both missing borders issues CAN be recreated in brand new campaigns without extension and in different rulesets, one a new Pathfinder 1E ruleset and the other a Dungeons and Dragons (5E) campaign. ~Persistent Errors 1.jpg, Persistent Errors 2.jpg~

When I asked a player to check for missing borders in the same window, they report that their tables DO HAVE borders, so it only appears to happen on the hosting computer. ~Player Table Borders.jpg~

The missing dice tower issue DOES NOT show up in newly created campaigns. ~Persistent Errors 1.jpg, Persistent Errors 2.jpg~

I have no idea of what is causing the <New Table> listings. I haven't been able to recreate that issue, even in my old campaign I have no idea where the new table entries are coming from but I have not created any new tables. These have appeared on their own. ~Expanding Table Entries.jpg~

I have done some research to see if the themes and extensions that I use could have caused these errors, but I have found nothing.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Delete CoreRPG.pak and PFRPG.PAK and 3.5E PAK and rerun the updater

The dice tower will only show on the GM side if Chat: Show GM Rolls is set to ON as well as Desktop: Show Dice Tower. This is because if Chat: Show GM Rolls is set to off it's the same as using the tower.

I deleted CoreRPG.pak, PFRPG.PAK and 3.5E PAK and reran the updater. At first it looked like it worked, but as soon as I tried to add another cell, all borders disappeared again. I also just checked my display drivers and they are up to date. What other solutions do you have?

As for the dice tower, yes, setting Show GM Rolls to ON fixes that issue.

Select a different theme (or none). That one appears to have problems.

What UI Scale are you using?
You can see in the FG Settings; or via typing "/scaleui" in the chat entry box while within a campaign.

In your rulesets folder do you have subfolders named corerpg, pfrpg, or 3.5e?

Salto
December 13th, 2024, 04:43
Yes. I deleted those and reran the updater.

Misspoke. Not folders, but .pak files.

Now that I am playing with some other tools, I find a number of other lines are missing that show the boundaries of objects. Just about all the lines are missing from my color picker. The RGBA and values are present, but the lines bounding the slider buttons are gone. 62960

Also the names of the layers in my images are invisible. I can mouse over them and the titles pop up, but they don't show up any longer. 62961

You should definitely try to run at UI Scale of 100 if possible. My guess is that the UI scale is causing the line drops. Do you see all those missing lines at UI Scale 100?

I can't reproduce this using the same ruleset and extensions.

A few things:
1) Do you also use some form of Windows monitor scaling? Check that this is set to 100%
2) Try updating your graphics card drivers. If they're the most current, see if you can find an older version and test with those.
3) As a test, try a different monitor resolution.

@Moon Wizard: I have tried multiple UI Scales and there are absolutely no lines anywhere.

@Trenloe: I stated in my original post that my players can see the lines in my items, but I do not. It is apparent that this issue is on my computer only. 1) I do not use any Windows scaling, but I tried changing that to 125% and got no change. 2) Updating my graphics card drivers was one of the first things I tried as listed in my first post. I haven't updated my driver since well before this issue started. 3) I am using the recommended setting of 1920x1080. When I try changing to 1600x1024, I get no change in the missing lines.

I am also using three monitors of differing resolutions. I recently added the third monitor to the mix, I believe between the time that I saw it working fine and now. Unfortunately, removing that monitor and going back to my original setup did not fix the problem.

I am starting to believe that this issue is being caused by some corruption in the html scripting that is used to build windows and their components in Fantasy Grounds. While I have deleted and restored the ruleset .rpk files, is there a particular file or fileset that controls those html functions that can be reinstalled?

@Trenloe: I stated in my original post that my players can see the lines in my items, but I do not. It is apparent that this issue is on my computer only.
I agree - hence why all of the things I mentioned were specific to your computer.

Can you try getting an older graphics driver or generic non manufacturer driver - just to test to see if this is related to the graphics driver.

You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling Fantasy Grounds - your data should remain, but if you may want to backup the FG app directory just to be safe.

Salto
December 14th, 2024, 20:40
I am pretty sure that this issue is not graphics driven, just by the way restarting Fantasy Grounds makes it seem like the problem is fixed, with all the lines showing. But once the cells are manipulated, the lines disappear immediately, without any change in graphics settings. But to rule this out definitively, I changed the graphics driver to an old one from 2 years ago. This did not fix the problem.

I can try reinstalling FG. That was another of my thoughts, but I wanted to exhaust other solutions.

Is it possible that this issue could be outside of FG and be caused by Java or a web browser or some other?

LordEntrails
December 14th, 2024, 21:01
FG doesn't use any type of web technology. It doesn't use Java or web browsers. It uses Unity as the game engine and LUA and XML for coding elements. I'm guessing there could be some corrupt .dll file, but that's just guessing and there is no way I know of to find such an issue if errors are not being generated. I guess you could check your system logs to see if anything is showing up there.

Salto

Hmmm. I indeed had a crash when I was trying to shut down FG while I was downgrading my graphics driver. It reported to Windows and then finally shut the program down. Not sure if this had anything to do with my missing lines issue, but it did call out several .dll files.

These are the logs that Windows made:

As I suspected, I reinstalled FG and this did not solve the problem. Lines still disappear. There is something outside of FG affecting it. What files can affect FG from outside?

Moon Wizard

This will not be affected by Windows UI Scale or external applications/drivers. This will be driven by the FG UI Scale (i.e. via Settings or via the /scaleui command).

When you said that you changed UI Scaling before, can you verify that you changed the FG UI Scale to 100?

I am using /scaleui of 85, but I have tried 90, 100 and 110 with no change.

This is not a scaling issue... The lines show, the table is manipulated and the lines disappear. The scale never changed.

Like I said, this is an issue outside of FG affecting FG... something that affects the way windows are built in the game.

Do you have a specific set of steps that you can provide that do this every time for you?

Scaling can still be a factor which is why I asked about FG UI Scale, even if it comes and goes.

Thanks,
