Hello,

I’m looking for a method to handle the illusory potions.

How can I distinguish this potion in the character’s inventory, among all the others?

How to remind me that the healing potion that the character is drinking is THE one that is illusory?

I use two versions of the potion, one being the potion of poison (which is what I'm assuming you mean by illusory potion) and the other being the potion it purports to be but with a slightly altered description from the 'normal' one. I give the normal potion to the players. If they identify it correctly then I swap in the potion of poison and if they don't then I just go ahead and apply the effect of the poison. If they have several of the same potion then I assume that the first one they drink after finding the potion of poison is the poison one since otherwise it's too complicated keeping track of which one is the poison without alerting the players that you are tracking a particular one.

You can mark or give this type of virtual potion a unique name in your character's inventory, for example by adding the prefix "Virtual" to the name (e.g. "Virtual Recovery Potion").
