View Full Version : Encounter is multiplying defined # of NPC’s by ~6

I don’t know what’s going on, but I created an encounter with two home brewed NPC’s: qty 12 Hill-Men Warriors and qty 5 wolf-dogs, however when I add a map and start encounter, the qty of NOC’s is multiplied by approximately 6, so instead of 12 Hill-men, there are 72, and about 20 wolf-dogs. Not sure what is going on. Can anyone help me figure out what is happening?

Note: I am a newb on FG

Thank you

Is this 5e? Are you running any extensions or such?

Yes, running 5e on the most recent FG, ultimate license. I also have a few Extensions:

Feature: D&D official Language Fonts
Theme: D&D
Adventures in Middle-Earth Extension (5e) Eldarc
Adventures in Middle-Earth OGL Extension (5e)

And that's pretty much it.

Can you show us a screen shot of the encounter and combat tracker before you add the encounters and then one after? And please include the chat window.

I'm not seeing this in the 5e ruleset, but I don't have the Middle Earth extension. Can you test without the extension or test without using quick maps to see if you can narrow down whether the extension or quick maps is the issue.

You might be using the quick maps incorrectly. You can double up on NPCs using it. I don't remember how I had done so now, but essentially it's a doubling up effect. I will check it out tomorrow. If the NPCs and players are already on the Combat tracker, don't add an Encounter to the quickmap, that's only for when the CT is empty of NPCs. Leave the quick map encounters blank if you already have creatures on the combat tracker. I am not even sure it's practical to even have the encounter added from the quick map interface, because it's no longer "quick" and essentially starts to become an encounter builder function. Especially if someone expects line of sight to be incorporated into a quick map, etc.

Doubling, (or more) on quick maps is done by the "1x" shown int he Quick Maps setup. The OP has it correct at "1x" and it is not set to "6x". I suspect it is the ME extension, but I also don't have it to try and test.

OK, I did preface my original post by "I'm an FG Newb" :)

I may have resolved the issue. I cleared out all 'non-friendly' NPC's from the Combat Tracker, then did both the Quick Maps and checked the Combat Tracker and it was the correct quantity..

So it looks like as I was playing with different map images in quick maps, it kept adding the combatants from the encounter to the tracker each time and not resetting it. Interestingly, it seemed to cap out at around 72 NPC's and then would just stay there. Anyways, that may have been the problem (as it usually is).....User error ;)

I will let you know if this crops up again, but seems this is resolved. Thanks for help and patience!

Alright then, good! I had a feeling it might be related to a similar experience that I had, because I had done something similar during a live video to show the new Quick map feature in FG a couple of months ago. We all go through these types of things, experienced or not. You are not alone in these things.

Join the FG Academy if you want and have not already done so.

Another thing that cause this issue is when you create the Encounter and place them on the map, you need to close out the Encounter and then reopen before dragging the Encounter to the CT. If you do not close before doing so you will have the "shadows" of the NPCs stay behind on the map, doubling the tokens but not the CT populace.
