This is replacing the number in the temp HP box instead of adding to it. I'm guessing this is an oversight. Dragging a number from the modifier box normally adds (or subtracts if you type a negative number) to the field you drag it to.

For clarity, here is a screenshot62809

I suspect this is working correctly.

Dragging a number (from anywhere) will replace whatever is in the temp hp box since all FG knows is that a number has been added into the temp hit point box. By dragging in a number you are essentially editing whatever number is already there. It will do the same thing if, for example, you dragged a number into the HP box, or if you did the same thing to an ability score.

The modifier box will only come into play when you make some kind of dice roll. So if you create a heal effect that gives temp hp, and if you add a number to the modifier box before rolling a dice to determine the number of points that number will be taken into consideration when updating the temp hit point box.

Thank you for your help.

Try dragging the modifier to other places. You'll see it works as I've described here. If you drag it to someone's goldpiece total, or someone's hit points or someone's wounds field. All of which cause an increase in the number your dragged, not a change to the number dragged.

Ok, I was actually dragging and dropping into the Combat Tracker rather than into the character sheet. If dragged into the character sheet you are right in that it adds to things like HP, Wounds etc.

I think maybe temporary hit points are different in that you can only have one source of temporary hit points at a time; so there's never an occasion when you'll be adding to temp hp; you'll always be either replacing them if the replacing amount is greater than the existing amount, or you'll be ignoring the temp hp altogether because the character already has a higher number than is being given. So if you currently have 10 temp hit points and get 5 from somewhere then you remain at 10; you don't get to add the extra 5. If you get 15 from somewhere then you replace the 10 with he 15 since that is more than you currently have. I'm going to assume that the correct handling only happens when the character is the subject of a temporary hit point healing action.

That does make sense. Although QoL-wise, it isn't as useful as the other way, imo. I often use the modifer box for corrections. Like someone got hit when they weren't supposed to, and I can just drag a number in there to correct it (vs doing math in your head or using a calc and then typig a new number). If you want to just change the number there to something else you can just click the box and type. But hey, if it's working as intended, so be it.

Thank you for your help.

If someone took damage that they weren't supposed to then you can right click on the number in the chat and select negative and then drag that new number back into the Combat Tracker to 'refund' the hit points.

Thank you, that is helpful.
